Kernel module + config file
Hola all (Disclaimer, I am a relative n00b so forgive me if my quesiton has an obivous answer). I have a kernel module I need loaded at startup for a SATA RAID controller. The .o file is happily sitting in the /lib/...kernel/drivers/scsi/ for the (only) kernel version I have. the module, however, is not loaded up at startup. What file to I have do modify to load the module at system startup time? Muchos gracias for any help you can offer. J Jones.
Crap, forgot to say, (see, I AM a n00b) Running SuSE 8.0
The module works fine when it is insmod'ed btw (just to
eliminate that from your minds)

I'll make a guess: you have go to add that module to the initrd.

Either the modules.conf file appropiately, or in boot.local. Can't give details, sorry (I haven't used sata so far, nor raid on bootup). -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson

Using your editor of choice add the module name to /etc/sysconfig/kernel in the line that begins INITRD_MODULES. Next run mkinitrd which will create the initrd file for you. After that the modules should load during boot. Ken

Could *please* remove this useless OE junk? At least To, Subject and that "Original Message" line are plain useless. I'd propose you have a look at http://home.in.tum.de/~jain/software/oe-quotefix/ Philipp
