Hi, I have strange problem with WINE on stock 8.2 and WINE RPM. On SuSE 8.1, everything worked fine. However, on 8.2 whenever I am trying to luanch Win application I get the message "wine is already configured", and after that wine freezes with 100% of CPU usage. Reconfiguring wine with winesetup and update_win_registry do not help either. I have upgraded to the newer wine version from apt, but problem remains. Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated. ********************************************* * Best Regards --- Andrei Verovski * * Personal Home Page * http://snow.prohosting.com/guru4mac * Mac, Linux, DTP, Development, IT WEB Site *********************************************

The message is harmless and just informational, the hang is probably something else. What does wine --debugmsg +relay app.exe show? Ciao, Marcus
Hi, Thanks to all who have replied. I have solved this problem - turned off prelink. I do not know why prelink have messed up wine. I am running WinRAR with wine, tried to run Dreamwaever, but it did not worked. On Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at 11:11 AM, Marcus Meissner wrote:

Maybe they've changed something in the config files. Try renaming /.wine to /.wine.bak then delete /.wine and run wine again and let it start it's configuration program. -- use Perl; #powerful programmable prestidigitation

"wine is already configured" -- This occurs regardless of whether or not the apps run. It's simply an announcement coded into the runtime routine to tell itself/you that the .pl script has been run. What app are you trying to run? This is the key feature. Many apps require custom subconfigurations and pointers or specific dll's. A good example of this is found in my winex3 config file. Though this is for games the same applies for any apps and if you look at the wine config file at the bottom you'll get an idea of what I'm talking about: #####winex3 app specific################## ;; App default settings ;; Battle Field 1942 settings [AppDefaults\\bf1942.exe\\d3dgl] "ClipSpaceFix" = "N" ;; Medal Of Honor settings [AppDefaults\\mohaa.exe\\memory] "MemoryLayoutOverride" = "0x10000000" [AppDefaults\\mohaademo.exe\\memory] "MemoryLayoutOverride" = "0x10000000" [AppDefaults\\moh_spearhead.exe\\memory] "MemoryLayoutOverride" = "0x10000000" [AppDefaults\\moh_spearhead.exe\\Version] "Windows" = "win2k" [AppDefaults\\moh_spearhead_demo.exe\\memory] "MemoryLayoutOverride" = "0x10000000" ;; SimCity 4 settings [AppDefaults\\SimCity 4.exe\\Version] "Windows" = "win2k" ;; Warcraft 3 [AppDefaults\\war3.exe\\transgaming] "cmdline" = "-opengl" ;; Civ 3 [AppDefaults\\Civilization3.exe\\Version] "Windows" = "win2k" And in you wine config file is: ######################################### # Application dependent sections follow # ######################################### [AppDefaults\\_INS5576._MP\\x11drv] ; Lotus Notes R5 installer ; I'm quite not sure this will run on some other machine than mine, but it ; can't hurt "Managed" = "N" "Desktop" = "N" [AppDefaults\\nlnotes.exe\\x11drv] "Desktop" = "800x600" You'ld best be suited to do a google search for wine +you specific app first to see if you can find out anything about you app. And as a note it would be helpful next post to mention the app that is failing or if this occurs regardless of the app. HTH, Curtis.

I never got a Wine rpm to work -- just loads of error messages. However, the source packages appear to perform rather well, and better than ever. To my surprise, the wine configuration file adapts remarkably well to the system, which is something that does not happen with the rpms. I got wine-20030508.tar.gz from here: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=6241 I would suggest to have checkinstall installed, so wine gets installed as an rpm. After uninstalling the current wine and removing wine* and .wine* from your home directory, installation looks like this: as user: ./configure make depend make after su'ing to root: checkinstall SH
