Problems installing Netscape 6.1
Dear list, I have just decided to install Netscape 6.1 as my current version of netscape that came shipped with suse 7.1 professional crashes everytime I try to use it. I downloaded the software and unzipped the file as per installation instructions. As superuser I then tried to execute the installation script ./netscape-installer The result of this command is shown below:- Xlib:connection to ":0.0" refused by server Xlib:Client is not authorised to connect to server Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: :0 Could somebody please tell me the steps that I must complete in order to get around the problem described above. Many thanks in advance Neil Briggs
Hi, Root cannot open the X display. As a normal user enter xhost +local: in an xterm, then try again. Tim On Wed, Sep 12, 2001 at 11:46:25AM +0200, neil briggs wrote:

I presume you used the 'su' command to become root? Although this will allow you to execute commands as root, you can't start up any X applications (like the Netscape installer) by default. To do this you have to allow root to connect to your X server. One way is to manually fix this using xhost, but SuSE have kindly provided you with the 'sux' command (which you type as a user) which will perform the same function as 'su', except that it will do the necessary work to allow root to connect to the X server itself.
./netscape-installer
The result of this command is shown below:-
Xlib:connection to ":0.0" refused by server Xlib:Client is not authorised to connect to server Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: :0

I have run into this before that a program will not install as superuser. Login as Root and install Netscape. It should install ok. Then login as user and excute 'netscape'. Netscape should run. This will create a /.netscape directory in the users home directory and other files. Nevada
