Hi Do I need to install some / full win-9x binaries to be able to run applications? I always get some "windows installer" error messages when trying to install Frontpage / Office-2000 etc... Jaska.

Getting apps to run under wine varies from 1 app to the next. For example, I use the agent newsreader under wine. It would not install with wine, but would run. So I copied an installed version from my windows drive, to my home directory which is reiserfs. Then I removed windows from the drive, and installed wine telling it to use it's own dlls. Agent runs perfectly, but I couldn't install it. You really need t0 play around and search google for tricks for your particular app. I wouldn't expect something as complex as Frontpage/Office-2000 to run well under wine, they barely run well under Windows. -- use Perl; #powerful programmable prestidigitation

Check out www.codeweavers.com. They have a product called CrossOver Office which is reported to run Office 2000 just fine..but it costs money so what you choose to do is up to you. :) -=Ben --=====-----=====-- mailto:ben@whack.org --=====-- Tell me what you believe..I tell you what you should see. -DP --=====-----=====--

It didn't install? Maybe you need to update your wine or install Codeweaver's Wine, which is a free download. It installed fine here, but i liked Pan better so i deleted Agent again :-) Marcel

I don't think you get the proprietary InstallShield extensions in the free version. They are needed to get some apps to install in wine. //Anders -- `When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, `it means just what I choose it to mean -- neither more nor less.'

You thought right, not the Crossover stuff. You just get the Wine part for free. cheers ;-) Marcel
