Sound in Mozilla 1.4rc3 and Netscape 7.1
Hello, I am running SuSE 8,2 Professional with all YOU patches applied. I know that SuSE uses ALSA as their linux sound solution but I have not been able to get mozilla or netscape to "play" sounds. Does anyone know how to enable sound in these two programs? By the way, the AIM in Netscape 7.1 is very well done, IMO. Regards.

I also have the Blackdown JDK 1.4.1-01 plugin installed, plugger4.0 and mozplugger-1.1.1-1 installed and they show up in "Help->About Plug-ins". My ALSA sound is operation and "play" on the wav files work fine. I am using the WAV files from an AOL 8.0 Windows installation. Still no sound. Thanks.

Do you know a web page with sounds enabled? Sometimes I hear sounds when navigating on certain webs, but also there are anothers where sound should play (acording to the person that tried it with IE), but I hear nothing. If there is a web page for testing sound, we could try. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson

Thanks for responding. I can play webpage sounds via plugger-4.0, it loops the sound. The real issue is getting AOL Instant Messenger to play sounds when events happen. In mozilla, under "Preferences->Mail & Newsgroups->Notifications" a WAVE file will not play but you can get a beep. I think this may be associated with the java.policy file in the JRE not allowing access to sound. I am pursuing this line of thought but will look at the mozilla source to see if I can make any sense out of it. Regards.
