I have some gtk apps that are refusing (in SuSE 9.1) to use the configured fonts. I'm using the KDE 3.2 that comes with 9.1, and have configured KDE and Gnome to use the same fonts using their respective tools. However, when I run Firefox (from 9.1 or my previous gtk2+xft version) or GnuCash (gtk1 only), they do not use the specified fonts for their interface. However, other gtk apps (e.g. Gaim) *are* using the correct fonts. Does anyone know what's going on here? Although Firefox (and Mozilla, and Thunderbird) are built with GTK+ as the underlying toolkit, the interface is done in XUL

Did you configure the GTK1 font as well as the GTK2 one? (Run gnomecc and select the Theme Selector to do this)

These are real GTK2 apps :) -- James Ogley, Webmaster, Rubber Turnip james@rubberturnip.org.uk http://www.rubberturnip.org.uk Jabber: riggwelter@myjabber.net Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 9.0) GNOME updates for SuSE: http://www.usr-local-bin.org

But I never saw this problem using SuSE 8.2, so I was hoping to get firefox back the way it was.

Yup :) Aha. Suddenly remembered that thing about needing to have gnome-settings-daemon running when using KDE, and that solved the firefox problem. GnuCash still does its own thing, though :-/ John -- John Pettigrew Headstrong Games john@headstrong-games.co.uk Fun : Strategy : Price http://www.headstrong-games.co.uk/ Board games that won't break the bank Fields of Valour: 2 Norse clans battle on one of 3 different boards
I find the gnome-settings-daemon is more trouble than it's worth, as then it starts screwing with your mouse settings, etc. Getting fonts to match up between the two desktops is hard enough without bringing all the other settings into the equation. Why not try this: Control Center -> Appearance & Themes -> Colors in the Control Center and enable the checkbox "Apply colors to non-KDE applications". Then append the text: # # Added by Taff to control gtk apps font-size without the # f$%^king gnome-settings-daemon... # style "defaultfont" { font_name = "Nimbus Sans L 8" } widget_class "*" style "defaultfont" # End Taff to the file /home/$USER/.kde/share/config/gtkrc Save the file, then change the permissions so it is _not_ writable by anyone (read-only). This is needed because kde will try to overwrite it at each login. This will set the default font for all gtk2 apps (not sure about gtk1 apps). Regards, Mark

Already done - it only works for the colours, though, not fonts.
Then append the text:
# Added by Taff to control gtk apps font-size[snip]
Thanks for that - works a treat :) John -- John Pettigrew Headstrong Games john@headstrong-games.co.uk Fun : Strategy : Price http://www.headstrong-games.co.uk/ Board games that won't break the bank Valley of the Kings: ransack an ancient Egyptian tomb but beware of mummies!
