[opensuse] Any thought about ditching the "Green" for 11.2?
Listmates, I don't want a flame war, just an answer to whether there has been any thought to changing from the green color for openSuSE to something else? We have been green since what? ( 10.1 or 10.2 ) and blue before that. 10.0 looked fine in blue. I've always thought the green was kind of ugly, reminding me of Lima beans. Any other possible choice? Novell Red? Back to Blue? Anything? Just a thought. Hopefully 11.2 will be a breath of fresh air, and with kde4 finally settling into a usable desktop, I bet it will be. Maybe it's time to shake off the old green... The green is the chamelon!
Just put the chameleon on another more cheerful color, like magenta. -- Bob Rea mailto:gapetard@stsams.org http://www.petard.us http://www.petard.us/blog http://www.petard.us/gallery Where is Bill Stringfellow now that we really need him? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I had a refreshing experience with past holiday that is really fitting to relate here. I had set up a server for him years ago that simply served as a basic file server and isn't connected to the internet. He brought it down for maintenance. When I booted the box, I was greeted by a very nice blue theme and a classic picture of a lake with reed lining the shore and a nicely done "SuSE 9.2" across the top. Why nothing like that today?? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. David, This came up some years ago and there is a 'fix' for this. Basically involves unarchving some file, replacing the graphic with one of your choice, then arching the file again. Have a look at the Knowledge Database for SuSE. I am going thru my papers here to see if I can find the reference - which I am pretty sure I printed out - but you may be able to find what you are looking in the Database. My god, I'm getting punchy! :-( . I thought I had pasted the URL but obviously didn't. David! Now you've upset all the environmentalists out there ;-). I'm sure there are those who think we should be more green rather than less...<grin> FWIW I agree with you (but then again, the only time I see green on my desktop is at the kdm logon screen). -- =================================================== Rodney Baker VK5ZTV rodney.baker@iinet.net.au =================================================== -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I'm in agreement with you David, I did like the blue, but SuSE can do more than just monochrome. I wonder if Novell would accept theme brandings from users?

Firstly for what it's worth, the green doesn't remind of of lima beans, but of the bile in the gizzard of a fresh-killed chicken or turkey. But let that pass. More seriously, I don't see a reason to settle on a permanent color. Nor do I see why only primary colors should be eligible; there is a whole world of subtle shades and colors that would be pleasant to view. What is important in that case is that an expert color designer chose the color -- which might well be different for each major release. -- Stan Goodman Qiryat Tiv'on Israel -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I like the green, green is the color of SuSE. I don't see any reason the change - it has to be some color, and the user can easily change the color to whatever they want. Green is certainly better than turd-brown. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

While I've to agree with the ancient wisedom, I have to admit I feel the same about the green / brown matter, but that's certainly OT. However as long as I can remember (:p) the green chamaleon has been the mascot of openSUSE, thus I meanwhile associate openSUSE with a green color I think I'd be nice to somehow keep the green (even if it's just in the logo). [Although I also use Studio with a blue themed screen] Regards, Michael
