Hi, A friend of me, gave the 5 cds of suse 9.2 to install them. I am a suse user since version 8.0, and the the past two versions the installation have been made from the dvd's (version 9.0 and 9.1). I noticed that from the version of 9.2 a lot of packages are missing (a lot of devel packages) and ,one important package for me, the gcc-fortran. I searched the package list on the net and found that for example fortran is on dvd1. So, does the cd version os suse have less packages?

Yes, the cd version has less packages than the DVD because it was impossible to fit it all on 5 cds. Josephine

I may be wrong, but that also happened on 9.1. One example is Eclipse. If you try to install it using the CD's, is not there, but it is on the DVD. regards, Riccardo

Hi, instead of :
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: mysql_pconnect() in /srv/www/htdocs/postnuke/install/newinstall.php on line 37
try the same syntax with mysql_connect() take a look at : http://be2.php.net/manual/en/function.mysql-pconnect.php
*Note: * Note, that these kind of links only work if you are using a module version of PHP. See the Persistent Database Connections http://be2.php.net/manual/en/features.persistent-connections.php section for more information.

Could be. I've noticed the same thing on 9.1. Are they on the ftp site? If so, just point Yast to it.

Only the 9.2 source RPMs are available on the ftp site so far... Probably later this month they'll show up eventually.
Are *all* source packages present? I miss e.g. kdeartwork3... Cheers, Leen
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello, Yes, many packages are not on 5 Official Cds. Just yesterday I build 3 Cds with all the packages on DVD not in CDs (for i386, not x86_64). It was a a few more than 1.4 GB, so I had to use 3 Cds. SuSE should think that all not systems have a DVD reader. Most of the packages will be available when ftp version were released. I would like to know what thinks SuSE about to release torrents with these 3 CDs. Without the 5 Offcial CDs nobody can Install SuSE, but if you need to use some development packages you will be in problems if you can't read DVDs. Guillermo. If they're GNU-licensed apps, just do it. If they don't happen to like it, there's not a lot they could complain about.

The problem here is I don't know which packages are free to distribute and which no. As other user said in the list, there more than 1000 packages lacking in the CDs. Did they toss the FTP version out there already? I looked on suse.com/pub/suse/9.2, etc... just yesterday and saw only the source RPMs...

This won't happen as it would be too costly to produce. Philipp

Still the priority of certain Packages on the CDs could be looked into. Quanta, Bluefish, and Scribus are all missing from the CDs and seem to be somewhat popular. Though I think they intended to remove package groups instead to keep things tidier.

Agreed... It's rather disheartening to have to keep 8+ gigs of install source on a network drive just so I can install all the stuff on my laptop.
