[opensuse] CUPS problem after update?
This morning I installed all the latest updates for 10.2, including one for CUPS. A little while later, I went into YAST to add a new printer to my system. A little popup window appeared that says "The list of installed drivers has changed.\n Building database of drivers..." and it's progress bar has been stuck at 4% for the last two hours, and it's been using 100% CPU for the entire time. I'm starting to think there may be a problem ... :-) Are there some file(s) that can I delete to completely rebuild the driver list from scratch? Other options? Thanks! - BS -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Yep, got exactly the same.

I've uninstalled all of cups and then reinstalled it but it still stops
at the same point.

I just installed the cups RPM that comes on the 10.2 CD/DVD (rpm --force cups-1.2.7-3.i586.rpm) over top of the update and now it seems to work. - BS -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Please don't use --force unless as a last resort. When installing older versions use --oldpackage instead. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989, linux since 1994, SuSE since 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Speaking of that, http://forgeftp.novell.com//library/SUSE%20Package%20Conventions/spc.html section "1.9. Version tag" also forgets to mention --oldpackage. OK, that worked for me, got past the 4%.
Only thing afterwards was that the script did not select the
recommended, and therefore working, driver for my printer, when this was
selected manually everything worked.
