[opensuse] Seamonkey filters not working
Since updating to the latest version of Seamonkey (2.7-2.9.2) the message filters have stopped working. Has anyone else noticed this? Any fix? tnx jk -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I am not sure if this related but when Thunderbird 10 (or wast it an update to 9 just before 10?) one of the message filters stopped working. I had to use the "Create Filter from Message" feature to have it work again. (The strange part was that all the others, which sort incoming openSUSE mail, eg, still worked and did not require to be configured again.) Even when I click on the "Run now" button, nothing happens. Normally, you briefly see an activity indicator in the bottom left of the panel. BTW, I've since updated(?) to 2.7.1-2.11.1 and the problem remains. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

One thing I've noticed is that the filters occasionally run, but only do some of the filtering. A tool that works erratically is worse than no tool at all. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Does your above observation apply to when you run the filters manually or do you mean that this is what happens even whey they are automatically run following the receipt of mail? It happens when it runs automatically. This morning, I noticed that some mail was filtered and others not. I don't see anything consistent. When I try to run manually, it appears as though nothing is happening. Normally, I should see an activity indictor at the bottom left of the filters panel. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

This looks like the same thing I came across and, as I already stated, I had to solve it by creating (a) new filter(s) from the message(s) themselves. For example, I have a bit-bucket filter which worked OK until (?)v10 of TB and then some messages were not being thrown into the trash can but others were. By creating a new filter for the messages affected from the messages themselves (Messages>Create Filter from Message) fixed the problem. While I can recreate some filters that way, other filters have multiple items. For example one, which worked today, but not yesterday, contains a list of newsletters from various sources, that are to be moved to my "Newsletters" folder. These filters have worked fine for years and suddenly stopped working properly. Also, it shouldn't matter how a filter is created. It should just work. That you had to create a filter from a message shows something is broken. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I should have been more explicit in my previous response. I agree with your general conclusion (that a filter should work) but what I indicated, but did not spell out, is that in my case the only filter which misbehaved was the bit-bucket one where I had to create new filters for some people rather than have them included in the single, general filter I have used since year dot. And only a couple of people were affected here - the other X number of people are still being filtered by the original 'general' filter. But as far as all the other filters which sort incoming mail into various mail list folders have not been affected - they all still work as they have been for years. Weird no? :-) .
