I am in a situation where I run SuSE 9.1 pro on a different floor then I work on. I have had good results using ssh X -l theuser themachine and then just running the app, such as kmail from the command line. This does not work with Kb3. I can not get a project window up! Anyone have any clue to why this is going on??? All comments welcome. john

I and others run k3b remotely to back up a fileserver to DVD, there its a case of running ssh -X root@igor and running k3b, works like a charm. The server in question is also running 9.1. Do your logs give any indication of whats going wrong? Regards, Ben

This is essentially the command I am using, ssh -X -l someuser somemachine
and running k3b, works like a charm. The server in question is also running 9.1.

Which logs are specific to k3b? I get the main k3b application window. I just never get a project window. john

Ok .. the SuSE machine has about 10 user accounts. Somehow, and I really don't know how, but the main user account I use has the project window and the main window in separate windows, NOT the default k3b where the project window is a split on the main window. If I log in to another user which does not have this separate window thing going down, everything works fine. I am sure there is a reason here but I just don't have the time to work it out right now. Thank you so much for all the great comments. This list is a "god send". I hope I can contribute help in the future rather then just taking it. Peace john
