I know it, but it's about megaide RPM, not KM_megaide RPM. I tried to install megaide RPM but it didn't compile. rpmbuild claims : $ rpmbuild -ba kernel-smp.spec error: Failed build dependencies: km_megaide is needed by kernel-smp-2.6.5-7.97 Thanks, Erwan.

Sorry to back again with my problem but it's crazy, the RPM km_megaide seems to not exist and it's needed to build RPMs of kernel. I found some RPMs about megaide but it's not the same thing and it doesn't work with. I don't understand how and why SuSE doesn't include on CDs *ALL* RPMs needed to build kernel. Erwan.

Search the DVD too. Not all packages are on CD. Cheers, Leen

Sorry, SuSE/Novell didn't sell me DVD but 6 CDs and nothing else. And there isn't DVD for SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9... So funny, km_megaide isn't in the packages list : http://www.suse.de/en/business/products/server/sles/packages/x86/index_all.h... Next time I'll take CDs of SuSE and I'll trash them. Erwan.

Are you mad?!? ;)) If you do not need the km_megaide binaries, then there is a way around this. We'll just remove the km_megaide requirement: Install the .src.rpm with 'rpm -Uhv what_ever_is_the_name-*.src.rpm' Then go to the spec dir: 'cd /usr/src/packages/SPECS/' Edit the spec file: 'mcedit what_ever_is_the_name.spec' Remove the occurrence of km_megaide and save the file Rebuild the .src.rpm with 'rpmbuild -ba mcedit what_ever_is_the_name.spec' If you get more missing package errors, or are afraid you get more ;), then just put a comment mark ('#') in front of the the 'BuildRequires:' line. Usually the package builds just fine after that. Cheers, Leen

May be... :)

It's the easy way, but I can't do that. I have to build RPMs of kernel as they were done. I can't remove parts from spec file. Thanks, Erwan.

Then you need the km_megaide rpms.

? Ok, you have your reasons. But before you bug SuSE with this, you might want to try it anyway, just to see if km_megaide is the only package that is missing. I guess not... Perhaps if you can convince SuSE why you need those packages, they might make them available to you. Cheers, Leen
Searching in this list, I've found another thread about megaide: http://www.netsys.com/suse-linux-e/2004/02/msg01320.html I've found that HP has drivers for his Megaide ATA Raid downloadable online only for Red Hat 8: http://h18004.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/21065.html So i think you may ask HP and not SuSe about this. It seems that this are propietary drivers. On Thursday 18 November 2004 12:50, Leendert Meyer wrote:

If this is the same controller that is in the ML330 good luck. I went through hell when performing kernel upgrades and it is not supported even though the sources are available (except for the binary lib which is why it is not part of the kernel sources. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989 SuSE since 1998 * Only reply to the list please*

There is a good chance that the km_* binary packages are not generated by a kernel-* rpm, but by quite another rpm. E.g. this is the case with km_nvidia, which is generated by the xf86tools-*.nosrc.rpm. This is also a nosrc.rpm because the NVIDIA-*.run files are not included. Also the km_cloop-*.i586.rpm is generated by the cloop-*.src.rpm. Alas I could not find any reference of the km_megaide package, except in the BuildRequires statements. Cheers, Leen

Just an idea. Have you tried downloading the kernel-source.src.rpm from people/mantel, then using mc to see if they have it inside. -- Joe Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Registered Linux user 231871

If one looks in the spec files of all the kernel-*.src.rpm's, then km_megaide is mentioned in a BuildRequires statement. That means there should be SuSE rpms for km_megaide somewhere. The question is if they are on the DVD or not. Cheers, Leen

And the answer is no :) Erwan.
Erwan, I've found this two files with diferent versions of the megaide driver sources. Hope any of them helps you. http://pub.datux.nl/linux/drivers/proliant/megaide-v5.05i-shimsource-generic... http://pub.datux.nl/linux/drivers/test/shim-source-megaide-v5.07j-generic-1-... If you succeed, why don't you build the suse 9.x rpms and post it somewhere? On Thursday 18 November 2004 11:49, Erwan. wrote:
