[SLE] VMware questions for SuSE 7.0
Questions regarding SuSE and VMware: 1) Will SuSE 7.0 come bundled with a 30 day trial version of VMware? 2) Will there be a VMware full release package which comes bundled with SuSE 7.0 (as there is presently for 6.4)? 3) Is VMware only for networked computers, or will it also work with stand alone workstations? 4) Does Win98 (or NT, 2000) also have to be installed, or is VMware a full stand alone emulator, as with WINE? 4A) If it is an emulator, how compatable is it with Win98 (or NT, 2000)? 5) How fast is it relative to Win98 alone? 6) How reliable is it relative to Win98 alone? 7) Is instalation and set-up a nightmare, or is it relatively straight forward? 1 and 2 : do not know. 3: I use it on a non networked computer 4: You either point VMware to an installed WinXX or install WinXX under VMware. WMware appears to be an emulated PC complete with bios. 5: Somewhat slower, depends on memory. Use 128Mb minimum. 6: It appears the same to me. I was never able to get more then VGA graphics to work. Did not try real hard. 7: Had no really bad problems installing. Lawrence Sayre wrote:

You mean 640x480? If you're running Windows inside the virtual machine, you should install the VMware tools (select Settings/VMware Tools Install from the menu, then the installation files appear on drive A:). That way you can get higher resolutions. Hello, By VGA I mean 16 colors (8bit??). I was running the resolution at 1024x760. I tried the VMware Tools Install but got confused and did not try very hard. Bye Stefan Troeger wrote:

Yes... As far as I know.

I don't think so, but if there is, it is from VMware, not SuSE. Otherwise it would cost about $300 or more. Besides, I never heard about the full VMware/SuSE6.4 bundle. I cut the rest of the questions, as they have already been answered. Regards Ole -- Windows: Where do you want to go today? MacOS: Where do you want to be tomorrow? On the VMware web site they offer VMware 2.0 bundled with SuSE (6.4, or so I assume). Lawrence Sayre --------------------------------------------- "Man's mind is his basic tool of survival!" This would just be the demo version. We do not have a version with a full license. --> -->On the VMware web site they offer VMware 2.0 bundled with SuSE (6.4, or -->so I assume). --> -->Lawrence Sayre -- Cheers, Ben Rosenberg Precision LINUX :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: SuSE Inc.
