Hi, I know this thread has been discussed before, but I have a unique problem, I think. I grabbed Mozilla 1.3 installer from the mozilla site and the blackdown.org java 1.4.1 that was compiled with gcc 3.2. When I try to start mozilla, I get the following non-fatal error: #/usr/local/mozilla-1.3> ./mozilla LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library /usr/local/blackdown-j2sdk1.4.1/jre/plugin/i386/mozilla/javaplugin_oji.so [/usr/local/blackdown-j2sdk1.4.1/jre/plugin/i386/mozilla/javaplugin_oji.so: undefined symbol: _ZN16nsServiceManager23GetGlobalServiceManagerEPP17nsIServiceManager] Plugger: Unable to find pluggerrc file! A google search on that symbol name lead to pretty much nothing. I found the symbol in the blackdown java plugin .so with: nm -Bo /usr/local/blackdown-j2sdk1.4.1/jre/plugin/i386/mozilla/javaplugin_oji.so | grep _ZN16nsServiceManager23GetGlobalServiceManagerEPP17nsIServiceManager /usr/local/blackdown-j2sdk1.4.1/jre/plugin/i386/mozilla/javaplugin_oji.so: U _ZN16nsServiceManager23GetGlobalServiceManagerEPP17nsIServiceManager (sorry for the long lines). Any thoughts? I tried adding /usr/local/blackdown-j2sdk1.4.1/jre/plugin/i386/mozilla/ to /etc/ld.so.conf but that didn't help. The "U" tells me the symbol is undefined as well in javaplugin_oji.so. Otherwise Moz1.3 is looking nice. Josh Trutwin http://trutwins.homeip.net
You have Mozilla that was compiled with GCC 2.95.x and JAVA that was compiled with GCC 3.2 so in effect you've reversed the problem that occurred in 8.1 ;) I would go to a SuSE mirror and grab the Mozilla 1.3 pkgs that have been compiled for your version. :) * Josh Trutwin (josh@trutwins.homeip.net) [030314 20:17]: ->Hi, -> ->I know this thread has been discussed before, but I have a unique problem, ->I think. -> ->I grabbed Mozilla 1.3 installer from the mozilla site and the ->blackdown.org java 1.4.1 that was compiled with gcc 3.2. -> ->When I try to start mozilla, I get the following non-fatal error: -> ->#/usr/local/mozilla-1.3> ./mozilla ->LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library ->/usr/local/blackdown-j2sdk1.4.1/jre/plugin/i386/mozilla/javaplugin_oji.so ->[/usr/local/blackdown-j2sdk1.4.1/jre/plugin/i386/mozilla/javaplugin_oji.so: ->undefined symbol: ->_ZN16nsServiceManager23GetGlobalServiceManagerEPP17nsIServiceManager] ->Plugger: Unable to find pluggerrc file! -> ->A google search on that symbol name lead to pretty much nothing. latah,
I see there are 8 files available in 8.1-i386 directory. How can I figure out which is the one I need? I am running SuSE8.1 and have Mozilla 1.0.1 from the DVD. This is also on my 'about Mozilla': Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.0.1) Gecko/20020903 -- Frits Wüthrich Pentaxianado

Heh. Oops, should've read the Release Notes.

Actually, mozilla 1.3 from mozilla.org seems to be working just fine on my 8.1 box. Maybe I'll just use the 2.95.x javaplugin in the sun java sdk instead of blackdowns? Or am I playing with fire using moz built with 2.95.x? Thanks for your help. Josh [...]

You can use the Mozilla pkg built with GCC 2.95.x but why do that when you can use the Mozilla pkg from SuSE and the Blackdown JDK. The one built with 2.95.x will run fine but there isn't any reason to use it anymore since Blackdown made a GCC 3.2 build of JAVA. -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org Tell me what you believe.. I guess so I could use my existing version of Java from Sun instead of also having blackdown, but disk space is cheap. I don't understand the differences between blackdown and Sun's java so I'll do some googling on that, maybe I'll just dump sun's. Time to go download Mozilla from ftp.suse.com... Thx, Josh
I *think* the only difference between Blackdown and Sun Java is that Sun
has built their java package using gcc 2.9x while Blackdown's is built
with gcc 3.x. Blackdown's package will work with SuSE's various packages
which were built with gcc 3.x. Sun's won't.

I would suggest getting the Mozilla package from SuSE's FTP site and
using that with the Blackdown Java. I finally located SuSE's Mozilla
packages, downloaded & installed them. They're running just fine with the
Blackdown Java.
