[opensuse] Missing search engines in firefox 11.99-4.1
Hi all, I have just noted that firefox 11.99-4.1 (x86_64) from Mozilla:beta repository is missing the list of search engines in the search bar. If I install the previous 11.99-2.1, using the same profile I have the whole list of search engine, so it seems to me there is something missing in the package. Best, Andrea Just type in www.google.com in the input line. Now when it comes up, go to Preferences and check "Use current page" and you'll have Google every time.

I do not see the issue. All search engines apparently there: Hygiea:~ # rpm -q MozillaFirefox MozillaFirefox-11.99-4.1.x86_64 But it's most likely language dependent. What is your FF UI language? I went into the problem thoroughly and I do not think it is something related to language. I tried to extract using mc the -2.1 and the -4.1 rpms in m2 and m4, respectively, and I obtain the following: ori@orodruin:~> grep -ri Bing m2 m4 Binary file m2/usr/lib64/firefox/libxul.so matches Binary file m2/usr/lib64/firefox/omni.ja matches Binary file m4/usr/lib64/firefox/libxul.so matches ori@orodruin:~> grep -ri google m2 m4 Binary file m2/usr/lib64/firefox/libxul.so matches Binary file m2/usr/lib64/firefox/omni.ja matches Binary file m4/usr/lib64/firefox/libxul.so matches Consider that I erased the -4.1 rpm from zypp cache and forced its reinstall (after downloading it again). So there is a difference in the omni.ja file: if I replace the omni.ja from -4.1 with the one from -2.1, all search engines are available again. Thanks for checking. You just found the proof that it's about languages ;-)

ori@orodruin:~> grep -ri Bing m2 m4 Binary file m2/usr/lib64/firefox/libxul.so matches Binary file m2/usr/lib64/firefox/omni.ja matches Binary file m4/usr/lib64/firefox/libxul.so matches ori@orodruin:~> grep -ri google m2 m4 Binary file m2/usr/lib64/firefox/libxul.so matches Binary file m2/usr/lib64/firefox/omni.ja matches Binary file m4/usr/lib64/firefox/libxul.so matches

It works for every locale but EN actually. The searchplugins are indeed part of the locale packages (in the openSUSE RPMs). They are not packaged for en-US (which is part of omni.ja instead of a separate locale pack). That's why it didn't look like locale issue for you. I need to look into it. There was some change in the Makefiles in locale pack generation which I adapted the locale pack generation for but I missed the fact that I need to do something for omni.ja as well apparently. Hi, I'm highly confused now. 1. nothing changed in that area between the 2.1 and 4.1 builds 2. if I build exactly the same source locally with osc build everything is perfect in the resulting RPM stored in my buildroot 3. the build from the buildservice does not have the searchplugins anymore! Hygiea:/var/tmp/build-root/home/abuild/rpmbuild/RPMS/x86_64 # rpm -qplv MozillaFirefox-11.99-0.x86_64.rpm | grep omni -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 6672528 Mär 27 10:46 /usr/lib64/firefox/omni.ja Hygiea:/var/tmp/build-root/home/abuild/rpmbuild/RPMS/x86_64 # ll /usr/lib64/firefox/omni.ja -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 6665334 27. Mär 13:48 /usr/lib64/firefox/omni.ja WTH is the difference? Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

It seems the last build (6.1) fixed the searchplugins problem. Have you found the culprit? Best, Andrea -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

This build worked (for some distributions) but without any related changes. Actually I added some debug output to the spec file which actually breaks the build when the files are missing. The current outcome is that it again failed for 11.1/i586 and 11.4/x86-64 but worked for the others. This seems highly erratic to me and I can only blame OBS for it :-( Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
Hi,
I solved the problem, by installing the extension "Add to Search Bar"

Hi,

Hi, I solved the problem, by installing the extension "Add to Search Bar"
I do not want another extension for something that is builtin... BTW, it seems strange to me that I can remove an available search engine but I can not add it when I open the "Manage search engines..." window. But this is a design choice by ff developers, nothing relative to the rpm. The problem seems to be fixed. Just updated firefox and all the search
engines are available.
