That's what IP Masquerading is for. Since with ADSL, you will get a static IP address, you can set up IP Masquerading very easily. No, you don't have to make any changes on the client machines. I am assuming that the clients are now configured to use the W98/Linux box as the gateway.
That is exactly the case. With no need for proxy settings on the client machines. All I selected was the "Connected to LAN" option in the browser settings area, that is all.
