As promised, here's your pre-announcement. We recently lost our primary North American mirror, sourceforge.net, b/c of a "lack of demand". (It turns out this "lack of demand" was actually a lack of demand for one of the three A records that host name has, but that's another story). I encourage you to contact ftpadmin@sourceforge.net and other contacts you might find there if you are as unhappy about this as we are. Our current list of mirrors can be found here: http://www.suse.com/us/support/download/ftp/int_mirrors.html Cheers, -- Chris "I'm only in it for the money!" Mahmood
(putting on flame proof suit) Any ISO's this time? I would like to give 7.3 a spin for my open source news site/analysis site, but I'd really like to go with a CD-based install... -Tim -- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Timothy R. iso's would be nice, but once you have an installed system it's really easy to upgrade your whole system. Yast does that quite nicely. I bought 7.0 then did ftp upgrades to 7.1 and then 7.2. I thought I'd buy 7.3 to give SuSE an annual (or there abouts) infusion of support cash. Then I found you can't order it on the web site for deliver in the Netherlands. What's up with that? They gladly shipped to me in Germany last year. I move across the border and they can't ship to me now? Word of advice to SuSE: Never tell a paying customer with broadband you won't ship to him. ftp becomes irresistible. John

John, Any good bookstore should have it in there computer department! My bookstore in Enschede had it the day it came out! They really are good at that! You shouldn't have problems obtaining a box here in The Netherlands! Gr. Aw, but then I've got to get my lazy butt into a store and interact with the world. Where's the fun in that? Software is better direct from the postman. :) John

I think what must have happened was that your order was just forwarded to Germany for fullfilment. You can order online from www.suse.de and it will be much cheaper. -- -ckm
Ordered 7.1 pro from Spain and got it here. Christopher Mahmood wrote:

Yes, that was probably the same situation. We'd receive orders and forward them. We've change the fullfilment stuff a lot since then and I don't think we can ship anywhere except North America... -- -ckm
I got my shipment in Germany last year because I lived in Germany last year.
2 days ago I went on the SuSE website (the european one), selected europe as
my region. It showed me a map of europe and asked me to select my country.
I clicked the Netherlands. It then said, to purchase from your location you
must locate a distributor or retailer. For Germany it adds the item to your
cart and asks you for a shipping address but for Holland it diverted me to a
list of retailers none of which I know or are in this region of Holland.
Not that it's a big deal or anything, I was just surprised that they would
miss that impulse sale. I had my credit/debit card in hand at the time but
got turned away--or rather I should say diverted. As it stands, the email
about the ftp for 7.3 came out about 2 hours later so I couldn't resist
making a comment. I've had this broadband connection for going on two weeks
so I'm just itching to use some bandwidth... :)

Just for posterity, what *was* the last non-live Eval CD release? 6.4? 7.1? I seem to remember getting a 7.0 Eval ISO, but that was a long time ago, and my memory sucks. :) ===== -- -=|JP|=- '01 B15 SE/PP | http://www.xanga.com/cowboydren/ | />< '95 SL2 Auto | cowboydren @ yahoo . com | __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Ah, stupid me...I didn't read it. Yes, I believe 7.0 was the last if you don't count /pub/suse/i386/japanese-7.1 (hint). -- -ckm

THAT's the ticket. Now, in RE: -ckm's remark, has anyone ever tried to install the Japanese edition and configure it for en_US? ;) ===== -- -=|JP|=- '01 B15 SE/PP | http://www.xanga.com/cowboydren/ | />< '95 SL2 Auto | cowboydren @ yahoo . com | __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
