Merging the 4 Setup CDs into one DVD
Hello, is there a way to merge the four setup cd's into one dvd so i dont need to change them, also, that will give me faster transfer rates. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks miles
You may copy the contents of all the CDs into a directory and regenerate an ISO to burn to a DVD. First of all, install the package "autoyast2". If there are directories whose name is "media.2", "media.3" and so on, remove them and leave only "media.1". Now edit media.1/media and change "4" to "1" in the third line. This means the number of CDs or DVDs you're going to have, and since you're going to burn it to one DVD you have to put "1". Now "cd" to where you've copied all the CDs and run: create_package_descr -x setup/descr/EXTRA_PROV -l english -l spanish -l french -l german -l czech -l hungarian -l italian This will regenerate the package description files, making YaST know where the files are. Make sure everything inside the "boot" directory has write permissions. Then generate the iso: mkisofs -v -V SU100OSS.001 -r -J -l -L -P "SuSE Linux AG" -b "boot/loader/isolinux.bin" -c "boot/loader/boot.cat" -no-emul-boot -boot-load-size 4 -boot-info-table -graft-points -o ~/openSuSE-10.0-beta1-DVD.iso . Open K3b and burn it. :) El Jueves, 11 de Agosto de 2005 20:03, Miles Harrison escribió:

suse/setup/descr/packages.hu But if you have merged the CDs into one DVD that file is nearly useless unless it is updated by create_package_descr, and that's just what the above command does. BTW, I forgot to mention you have to type "cd suse" before running create_package_descr.

The media check will obviously don't work because the media was altered. I don't know very well how the media check works but perhaps you might try to update the MD5SUMS. Anyway that shouldn't prevent you from installing without any problem. -- Víctor Fernández Martínez Gabinete de prensa de PoLinux [www.polinux.upv.es]. How to regenerate the correct md5 checksum? Found the md5sum the iso files #8373 offset: md5sum=c3313ac77647e01fe52ac99d5e23bb68 -- sAGA
To regenerate the MD5SUM, execute: md5sum <name of file.iso> Let it churn away for a bit and it will generate an MD5SUM. You can then post this in a file where you ISO is downloaded. RP saga@citromail.hu wrote:

man mkisofs pathspec is the path of the directory tree to be copied into the iso9660 filesystem. Multiple paths can be specified, and mkisofs will merge the files found in all of the specified path components to form the cdrom image. I added the source directory with all the files and now mkisofs creates the iso file without any problem :) I tested the Iso and it works fine. Cheers, Raúl

The boot.cat file doesn't really exist on the filesystem, just on the ISO. From the mkisofs docs. -c boot_catalog Specifies the path and filename of the boot catalog to be used when making an "El Torito" bootable CD. The path name must be relative to the source path specified to mkisofs. This option is required to make a bootable CD. This file will be inserted into the output tree and not created in the source filesystem, so be sure the speci fied filename does not conflict with an existing file, as it will be excluded. Usually a name like "boot.catalog" is chosen. -- Simon Crute IS&T Bracknell Novell UK Ltd

Yes, mount the ISOs with: mount -o loop,ro cd1.iso /mnt/iso1 First of all creat /mnt/iso1, of course. Then copy the contents of /mnt/iso1 to another directory.

When you copy the contents of the ISOs to a directory you'll find media.1/media there.

CD to the new directory you've created, not to the CDs or the mounted ISOs.
