Re: [opensuse] encrypted usb disk under linux how-to]
Oops, I replied directly to the sender. I meant to post the following to the list... I just went through this. See the relevant sections at: http://en.opensuse.org/SUSE_Security_Lockdown_-_Hardening_Your_Linux_System and the discussion of mounting encrypted USB drives under the subject: "encrypted usb drives - fixed mount points" on this list. The latter shows how to use device IDs to consistently mount a particular drive on a specific directory. Best, ds George Stoianov wrote:

Wellllll......Went all over that URL and didn't really find anything relevant except in a very general way. Seems that the only way to encrypt a partition is by starting out that way on install. If it was decided that something needed to be encrypted later it could only be done on a file by file basis.

This neither. Would like to add a new USB drive that could be encrypted.

If you need info on that, I can tell you. I even create encrypted DVDs (not the multimedia type). I think I wrote here about it some time ago. It shouldn't be too complicated on usb things, aside from the mount point nuisance, that was solved some posts back. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Yes Carlos, Can you point me at an archive time period and/or the Subject? I think I have the mount point articles saved here somewhere. Bob S -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Sorry, can't help with after-the-fact encryption.

Didn't come up in my searches, either. Guess I don't understand the search engine, but the thread is here... http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse/2007-01/threads4.html

Funny. Searching for "encrypted usb drives" doesn't find this one: [opensuse] encrypted usb drives - fixed mount points http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse/2007-01/msg00797.html - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
