A couple of days ago I asked about buying SUSE preinstalled on a Sony GRT896 laptop in the UK. I didn't find anywhere to buy it, nor anyone who had installed it themselves, so I'd like to broaden the question. Is there anywhere in the UK that I can buy Linux preinstalled on any manufacturer's laptop? I'm looking for a top-end machine, a known brand, good reliability and good service. I'd prefer SUSE. IBM are strong on Linux, so is there anywhere in the UK I can buy an IBM laptop with Linux, for example? Thanks, Dave

Have you contacted SuSE UK about this - they'll know about any OEM arrangements that exist. -- James Ogley, Webmaster, Rubber Turnip james@rubberturnip.org.uk http://www.rubberturnip.org.uk Jabber: riggwelter@myjabber.net Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 9.0). I haven't. I've looked at the supported hardware pages on the website because I thought they'd publish any relevant information there (and what is there looks out of date). But it's a good thought; I'll give them a call. Thanks, Dave
I have never heard of a major Computer Manufacturer who Pre installs SuSE on a LapTop? Dell and IBM? used to do that other Dist, but they have discontinued that.... Have you looked in the latest issues of LinuxFormat (http://www.linuxformat.co.uk/)? Maybe you can find an ad for a LapTop there? Or a Review or Recomendation? //PDa Dave Howorth wrote:

Whiew ! That Meteor items is choice ! Almost makes me think about throwing my C760 ( sharps hand held linux thingy) away , or selling on ebay... 'course this gem is a bit pricier.. but it has set the drool mode to on ! j -- Some folks on the internet put their faith in C++ They swear that it's so powerful it's what god used for us. And maybe it lets mortles dredge their objects from the C. But I think that explains that only God can make a tree. For God wrote in Lisp code . When he filled the leaves w/ green... the most lovely hack I've seen.
