[opensuse] Lost grub's graphical boot menu
Hi folks, My boot menu does not appear in graphic mode anymore. Now it is only a black and white text mode menu. I have the following packages installed: gfxboot-4.1.19-2.1 gfxboot-branding-upstream-4.1.19-2.1 And there is a file named "message" in /boot. Is there anything else I should check? Check /boot/grub/menu.lst and make sure there is a line, gfxmenu (hdx,x)/boot/message (where x,x are disk and partition for root, assuming not a separate boot. If a separate boot, then boot, and the path would not include /boot) HTH -- Joe Morris Registered Linux user 231871 running openSUSE 11.1 x86_64 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

In mine, there is the following line: gfxmenu (hd0,0)/boot/message I do not have a separate boot partition and my / partition is /dev/sda1. So I guess it is correct, isn't it? There is. I uninstalled the upstream file and installed this one, but the boot menu is still in text mode. Thanks, Marcelo -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I've not infrequently seen an upgrade cause the 'gfxmenu (hd0,7)/boot/message' (or whatever it's supposed to be) line in menu.lst inappropriately changed to (hd0,0). Check yours against menu.lst.old to see if it happened to you. -- "The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty." Proverbs 21:5 NIV Team OS/2 ** Reg. Mine says (0,0) indeed, but my / partition is /dev/sda1, so I guess it is right... The menu.lst.old file has an identical entry, but the file have been altered sometimes by yast lately because of other changes. I think I don't have an old copy of when it was working :( Thanks, Marcelo -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
The problem was that the graphical menu is not shown when there is a password configured for grub in /boot/grub/menu.lst. []'s Marcelo Em Dom 01 Mar 2009, Marcelo Magno T. Sales escreveu:
