exited with signal 6, /home-less?!
On my system I have a 1.2 Gb hard disk solely for /home. Since yesterday night or early this morning I am suddenly out of SuSE after downloading some rpms from my CD. Do not think there is a connection to what I was doing and the freezing of my screen. Three finger salute and other tricks did not work so I finely shut down the electricity. Somebody has to show who is the boss ;-). A reboot stopped relatively early in the process with the message : fsck.reiserfs exited with signal 6 run manually After logging as root (of course) I ran fsck /dev/hdd1 and was informed the a check was not possible because the process was exited with signal 6. At that time I decided to leaf the computer at its one and see further at a decent time and find out what to do. Still the same messages. When I try to mount this drive with: #mount -t reiserfs /dev/hdd1 /home I get sh-2021: reiserfs_read_super: can not find reiserfs on ide1(22,65) mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hdd1 or too many mounted file systems. I am afraid that I am /home less and that my hdd1 is gone but have still a hope to save some of my files. For the moment I have returned to my very stable DrDos and hope to get ideas, suggestions what to do apart from trashing the hard disk. \\|||// (o) (o) ==========================.oOO==( )==OOo.=============================== Constant Brouerius van Nidek constant@indo.net.id Bogor Indonesia ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Jakarta Building and Fumigation, web site sponsor of Living in Indonesia, A Site for Expatriates, http://www.expat.or.id ************************************************************************ Registered Linux user 183145 -- " Every little BYTE helps " NTReader v0.36w(P)/Beta (Registered) in conjunction with Net-Tamer.

you might want to use knoppix from CD and run checks against this partition, just to rule out a possible issue with the suse system you have. at first i was confused by the extreme time difference of your posting time, but then discovered you're in Indonesia. pretty friggin awesome surf down there - Grajagan, Padang Padang, Mentawais.
