HI all: I have checked and I have a swap partion in the file system. The boot messages are failure to create swap devices due to being unable to read swap signature. When I go to Kdiskfree it shows shmfs as a 250.7 mb partion mount point being /dev/shm. However under type it shows a question mark. My quess is for some reason it the install did not properly create the swap partition. My question is; Is there anything I can do now to correct it easily? Or since the system seems to run with the more then occassional lockups when moving large files around, maybe I should wait for SuSE 8.1 and install it to correct the problem.

shmfs is a shared memory file system. It is not swap. swap space is hard disk space to be used when the RAM memory fills up. Using RAM memory for swap is a contradiction in terms. If your swap partition won't mount you could try running "mkswap /dev/hda2" followed by "swapon -a". If nothing else it should give you some informative error messages (hopefully). //Anders -- 'Deserves [death]. I daresay he does. Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends.' --Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings

Anders and all who responded: Thanks very much, I ran the commands, then did a reboot.
