I've read in a SuSE forum about downgrading to the .95 kernel to get kaudiocreator's cd ripping back up to par. I'd rather get the current 2.6.5-7.108 kernel working. Is there a workaround for this app? Even clicking between tabbed panes is slow. -- Stephen If your desktop gets out of control easily, you probably have too much stuff on it that doesn't need to be there. Hi, since upgrading to the new KDE 3.3 I've found that kdeinit is using 100% of the CPU. I'm running a dual PIII 500 machine with 256MB RAM. I would have thought that this was sufficiently powerful enough to run Suse 9.1/KDE. It didn't use as much CPU before the upgrade. Any ideas? Matthew

I also think it should work fine in your pc. kdeinit is a meta-task that can be related not to kde but to kde apps such as kmail or konqueror, so please execute "top" in a terminal and then press "c" key to see the entire name of the tasks, and finally tell us which is the cpu-consuming task. I've noticed that kmail ussualy consume 100% of the cpu usage when downlaoding my email (every 5 minutes), and this shouldn't happen: in other distros this works fine. Unfortunately this problem is not kmail related but something that occurs system wide: everytime HD usage is high, cpu usage reaches 100% or so: execute updatedb for example. Then do that in SuSE 9.0 and you'll be surprised! Good luck, Edulix.

I haven't seen this at all - in fact on my PII 350 w/ 128MB nothing seems to peak over about 15% cpu usage. Even rendering/scaling the wallpaper images doesn't tax it too much Dylan
Good luck, Edulix.

Now that is good news I was worried about trying KDE 3.3 on my PII 350 / 256mb / 8mb video. Some of the early reports still worry me about loss of some functions screensavers etc which makes me wonder what else is missing. BTW mine is a Gigabyte MB. My screensavers weren't working, possibly after 3.3 or kernel upgrade, now they work. It may have been the earlier kernel.org kernels as on both the x86 box and x86_64 laptop they started working again with kernel 2.6.9-rc2-mm2. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce .... I see there's so many problem upgrade KDE 3.3 in suse 9.0, is that right ? Cause in suse 9.1 i can't get my samba client mount samba server, so i try downgrade to suse 9.0, but with default kde in suse 9.0, the konqueror is still buggy.. Is my point is right or just some cases ? -- Arie Reynaldi Zanahar reymanx at gmail.com http://www.reynaldi.com

I have the same issue. I am using the standard Kernel from 9.1 personal, with whatever upgrades YaST has provided. When I updated to 3.3 KAudioCreator has started ripping etc. very slowly. I too would like to know how to get around this, since I like to write while listening to music and this makes my Linux side much less appealing than it would be otherwise. Thanks in advance for any help. Cheers! Jeffrey Zents

For what its worth, its the same with 2.6.7 and KDE 3.3. It seemed to be the upgrade to KDE3.3 that did it. Grip works just fine tho, and thats what i'm sticking with. jalal -- GPG fingerprint = 3D45 5509 D380 26A4 523E A9D8 A66A 5F38 CA43 BB0E

Well, Grip gives me the gripes. I have a CD that it simply refuses to rip all the tracks on. It always leaves at least one out. The CD rips fine under media player and iTunes. Never have had that issue with KAudioCreator. I agree that I sure hope this is fixed in the upcoming 9.2. Cheers! Jeff Zents

Here's the bug listing: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=87267 I wish SuSE would have patched this in their kdemultimedia3-CD rpm (current is 3.3.0-7) :( Should be fixed in the upcoming 3.3.1. -- Stephen If your desktop gets out of control easily, you probably have too much stuff on it that doesn't need to be there.
