[opensuse] Site does not work in openSUSE version of Firefox but OK in Mozilla version?
Hi, I have strange situation. The whole story is quite long, but briefly - bank site works correctly in Firefox under MS Windows and in Mozilla version of FF under openSUSE, but does not work in openSUSE version of FF. Full story: Officially bank only supports MS IE, so I can't ask them what's wrong. For a long time I used IE under wine to access the site. FF and konqueror could not work even if I configured them to present themselves as IE. They failed at the stage of SSL negotiation. About half a year ago they made serious re-design of the site and I decided to try it in FF again. To my surprise it worked (except some minor issues) (both under MS Windows and under openSUSE with openSUSE FF, not sure what exact version, probably 2.0.0.3). For some months I happily used FF but recently it stopped working again. I thought bank changed something again, so I did not pay attention to when exactly it happened. I think it was after update to FF 2.0.0.4 or 2.0.0.5. But then I noticed that under MS Windows it still works fine. (It was on 10.2 version). After I installed 10.3, I tried site again before adding any extensions and it still did not work. Then I decided to try Mozilla version of FF on the same system and found out that it works fine, just as Windows version. What happens is that the account page has upper line with "clickable" icons and account data and also some "notebook" type menu with clickable lines. When it works (MS Windows and Mozilla version of FF), the page is rendered once. Under openSUSE FF the page is initially drawn correctly, but after some delay it is re-drawn and this time it is distorted (no account data) and icons and tabs becomes not clickable (cursor shape is not changed on these items also). I can say for sure that it did not work in openSUSE FF 2.0.0.5 and does not work in 2.0.0.8 (latest). I tried Mozilla versions 2.0.0.7 and 2.0.0.8 and they are both OK (of course they are not really "installed" in the system. I just copied Mozilla directory under /opt/firefox, copied everything from /usr/lib/browser-plugins to /opt/firefox/plugins and explicitly run /opt/firefox/firefox. Any idea of what could be the reason of such a behavior? (Since it's bank site, I can't post exact details. But I can provide some screenshots, if needed.) I compared page source code in working case (under Mozilla FF) and in bad case (SUSE FF) and to my surprise found out that when the page is opened under Mozila FF, it contains reference to ieEmu.js while in SUSE FF this script is not used. I guess ieEmu is emulation of Internet Explorer. So it looks like somehow SUSE version of FF identifies itself differently and site does not handle it as FF. I've checked that SUSE version has additional useragent fields: vendor and vendorSub. Could they cause such a behavior? -- Mark Goldstein -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Strange as it is, bank site probably uses these strings to identify the client browser. After adding these 2 fields to Mozilla FF, it stopped working. I then removed them from SUSE FF (by editing firefox-novell.js) and got the site working correctly in SUSE browser. I hope, removing of these variables does not break anything? -- Mark Goldstein -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I don't think so. This is simply info that the browser sends to the website to identify itself when they start "talking". There used to be a Preferences tab where you could could select what info is delivered or you could even fake another browser to fool the webserver into allowing you in. Now, I couldn't find any place in the Preferences to set it anymore. Only the about:config items you mentioned. -- Carlos FL Who is General Failure, and why is he reading my disk? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Not sure I ever saw these in Preferences. Maybe it was with the plugin UserAgentSwitch or similar? There is something like this in Konqueror, though. In any case I was able to add these fields in config:about to Mozilla version, but since they are "default" and not "user set" in SUSE version, I could not remove them from about:config, but found that they are set in /usr/lib/firefox/defaults/pref/firefox-novell.js, so I've just removed them from this file. -- Mark Goldstein -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I hope you reported the issue to the site and/or to either bugzilla.mozilla.org or via Firefox' report broken website reporter? If not, please let me know which site(s) are showing this problem (I haven't read the whole thread so I missed that information probably) Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
