The 7.1 SuSE book says: LI The second stage has been invoked but could not be started. This can either be caused by a geometry mismatch or by moving /boot/boot.b without reinstalling LILO. Does this mean to move the boot.b file from the /boot directory or that the file has been moved, therefore it is causing this error? Where does this file come from? How is it generated? Thx!
The file boot.b contains the code called by the boot loader. The boot sector is very small (512 bytes), so it can't contain any knowledge about filesystems. So The boot secter needs to have a hard coded location to the code that carries out the rest of the OS loading. boot.b doesn't have to be moved out of the directory. If it moves even a couple of bytes on the hard drive, everything will fail. lilo has to be re-run to update the boot sector with the new location Regards Anders On Tuesday 10 July 2001 18:37, dwcasey@mysun.com wrote:

Where is your /boot partition mounted? It is recommended to be /dev/hda1 ( or the first partition of /dev/hda). It only needs to be 10 or 20 megs. On big disks, this ensures that lilo can get the bootloader going. NetZero Platinum No Banner Ads and Unlimited Access Sign Up Today - Only $9.95 per month! http://www.netzero.net
