I am not sure what version I run with my suse 7.2. I have suse 7.3. Can I use the KDE for this ??.

Both SuSE 7.2 and 7.3 had KDE versions that supported screen savers just fine. There is another screen saver as well for non-KDE window managers that you'll need to set up if you're not using KDE.
If you are referreing to xscreensaver this will work: Open up .xinitrc in your favourite text editor (it's vi, isn't it?). Add xscreensaver -nosplash & after #start some stuff. måndagen den 7 januari 2002 08.05 skrev Erik Jakobsen:

Not I'm not sure its my favourite editor :-)) Is it .xinitrc in /etc/skel ??
Add xscreensaver -nosplash & after #start some stuff.
Hejsan.

No, it's .xinitrc in your home directory. If you edit /etc/skel/.xinitrc it will only affect the users you create in the future. måndagen den 7 januari 2002 10.09 skrev erik@urbakken.dk:

Erik, Welcome to the club. I don't want to disappoint you, but all the time I had the 7.2, I was never able to have the screensaver coming up, though the same one came up well when I had the 7.1... One of the reasons I switched to 7.3 as soon as I could. Regards, gr, in sunny, warm Florida. **"In war, it counts not who's right, but who's left."** /Dear Abby/

Thank you, but I'm not full member. I do not know the reason why, but the screensaver works now. I got the online update from SuSE, and do not know if its this that have done it. I also use 7.3 on another computer.

LIke many, I face the same problem: screensaver works only as "test."
Permissions are unchanged from earlier LInux versions.
But I'm running 7.1 (with many updates). I think the problem lies
with kde, since an update to 2.2.1 occurred about the time screensaver
stopped working.
Also recently, kde "energy" setting to sleep after 20 minutes has no
effect upon my monitor. Possibly related: could the kde control
center simply be broken?
