Since kernel 2.6.30-something, default for mounting filesystems is relatime (only update atime for changes of more than the modified time). You can check this in /proc/mounts To override it just use the option "atime" in your fstab. Just noticed that the mount(8) manpage hasn't been updated to let people know this, will file a bug. Regards, Tejas PS.Your email client is borked, it's sending the actual message content as an attachment and some disclaimer as the message text. To override it just use the option "atime" in your fstab. Thanks a ton -- I was not aware of this new approach. I'll read up on it.

Good plan ;-)

Actually, it's a side effect of using PGP/MIME, and having the corporate Exchange server add this silly "legal" blurb (which I have no control over) -- thanks for pointing it out, though. The IT guys must have changed something recently which preserves the electronic signature (good), but borks the layout (damn!). Thanks again for your help. Cheers. Bye. Ph. A.
