[opensuse] Pam Pilot not working
Hi all, Next little niggle in my new 11.0 install. My palm device (actually a rather old Sony Clie running Palm OS 4.1) used to work under 10.3, but doesn't do diddly any more. If I try to add the pilot sync applet to the task bar thingy it can't see the device to configure itself. Even when I hit sync on the palm, there's no /dev/pilot device that pops into existance (which was one of the things I remember happening before?) Any suggestions, places I should start, good luck charms? Cheers, Simon "You can tell whether a man is clever by his answers. I've made a little progress with my palm pilot, but I still get nothing useful. I'm using 11.0, and I've discovered that the device which is USB, shows up as /dev/ttyUSB0 and /dev/ttyUSB1, not /dev/pilot as I had assumed from previous experiences. However, even when I point the gnome pilot applet at this, it still doesn't do anything. Part of the problem is that I don't know which of these two I should use, or if I should use the "usb:" entry in the pilot applet's drop down list. I've tried them all, but none worked. Maybe I did the wrong one first, and that broke something? Can anyone tell me what configuration is intended? Presumably someone somewhere has a working USB palm device on 11.0? Is there anything else that I can do to debug this? TIA for any pointers, Simon "You can tell whether a man is clever by his answers. Which one you use depends on what palm pilot you have , The newer palms lifedrive, zire and Tungsten use /dev/ttyUSB0, where as the old palms use /dev/ttyUSB1 I have my LifeDrive syncing well under KDE 3.5 I had to tweak some of the Conduits but that also depends on which Palm you have you can go to the pilot-link mail group for more help . pilot-link-general@pilot-link.org -- In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice; In practice, there is Robert Cunningham Sr. Physics Laboratory Coordinator /RSO -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Many thanks Robert, that helps some. My device is a five-year-old (or so) Sony Clie. Does anyone have any specifics on that? It sure seems odd that _both_ pop into existence when the thing goes into sync mode. And are there any debugging tools/techniques? Can I connect to this from a command line and see if anything is happening perhaps? Can I use cat, echo, telnet or expect to drive it manually to some extent? meanwhile, I'll try the pilot link group too, Thanks again Cheers, Simon "You can tell whether a man is clever by his answers. Well, I've moved forward some. I tried the jpilot application, and apart from it crashing from time to time, it works. It sees my device as /dev/ttyUSB1, and it synchronizes with it successfully. Not sure what that tells me about gnome-pilot though... Perhaps it's a bug? Simon The Sony Clie had some problems syncing, I remember a that there was a lot of posts about it either on pilot-link group or the kdepim group a few years back, so you might try and do some searches on those groups, I had trouble with my zire, and my Life drive and those groups were very helpful in getting things to work.
