3D acceleration is not working with my installation of SuSE 8.0. All the same hardware worked fine with SuSE 7.3. The problem shows up as the following messages in /var/log/XFree86.0.log: XFree86 Version 4.2.0 / X Window System (protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6600) Release Date: 23 January 2002 ... skipping a bunch of stuff ... (II) LoadModule: "glx" (II) Loading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/glx.so (EE) LoadModule: Module glx does not have a glxModuleData data object. (II) UnloadModule: "glx" (II) Unloading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/glx.so (EE) Failed to load module "glx" (invalid module, 0) 3Ddiag reports the following: Tests for package "xf86_glx": package ... failed! ================================================================ Package "xf86_glx" must be installed with YaST(2)! ================================================================ Tests for correct OpenGL libraries/GLX extensions: /etc/sysconfig/3ddiag (SCRIPT_3D=switch2xf86_glx) ... done. But, xf86_glx is not on the SuSE 8.0 CDs (or at least YaST2 can't find it). There is a package xf86glx-devel, but installing that made no difference. There is also no script switch2xf86_glx on my system nor is it found by YaST2 when searching the CDs. Section "Module" Load "dbe" Load "type1" Load "speedo" Load "extmod" Load "freetype" Load "glx" Load "dri" EndSection Another indication that something is messed up: rpm -qf /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/glx.so reports that glx.so belongs to package xmods_3X which is a Version 3.x package and I am using 4.2.0! -- Robert C. You can install the glx modules from the suplementary directory at the SuSE ftp server, from X for 7.3, works like a charm. But it is a bit stupid on SuSE's part, I mean I needed this for my matrox, which is printed on the bottom of the box as being supported (out of the said box ;) One might think they had learned their lesson with 7.3, where the sources of the alsa modules where missing... Ya, and on the subject of alsa and SBLive cards, the emu-tool/emu-config/emu-dspmgr doesn't work. Everytime I've tried to use it it tells me something about using old/invalid drivers and gives I/O errors. ? Cheers Curtis On Sunday 05 May 2002 04:28, Gert-Jan Rodenburg wrote:
