Yes, but still is not there in most mirrors. BTW, the apt users already can add the 'base' component to their 'sources.list' file. But IMPORTANT NOTE!!!!: SuSE has added a '.1' suffix to the release version of rpms included in FTP with respect the boxed CD-DVD ones. So apt will install A LOT of new packages if you already has your system installed from boxed media. I've had to supress the 'base' component after added it. I don't like to re-install more than 1000 packages again. Happy downloading weekend ;-) Guillermo

Even more interestingly they have a pre-built DVD in the iso folder. No more "How can I build a DVD from the ftp site?" questions ;-) -- Steve Boddy
I downloaded the boot.iso and burned a cd. Tried it on two different computers, and in both cases it hung for a long time (on the second one I waited 1/2 hour) on "retrieving package selections" or something to that effect. I went to the other VTs and checked dmesg, top, ps, etc, and there was absolutely nothing happening. System was still responsive, it just absolutely failed to get the package selections. My intention was to try the ftp install/upgrade and then buy the packaged product, but based on what I have seen I think I'll be keeping my money and sticking with 9.1, which runs flawlessly here. This came out in the last day or so. The servers will be creaking at the seams. Don't judge 9.2 on this one aspect. Make sure you're not trying to ftp from ftp.suse.com. A lot of people still use that instead of a more local mirror. Alternatively, wait a week or two, then try again. -- Steve Boddy

Well if they do I can't find it on the US mirrors or else I am going senile in my old age. I checked 4 different sites and they still have 9.1 as the "current" version. Any clues or more direct links? -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989 SuSE since 1998 * Only reply to the list please*

The mirrors may still be waiting for rsync to finish. :-O -- ..."Yogi" CH Namasté Yoga Studio

Well I can see why none of the mirrors have the DVD iso. Trying wget -r on the link returns a "file not found" for the DVD iso. I'll try back in a couple of days. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989 SuSE since 1998 * Only reply to the list please*

How come it's 3.5G when the DVD is 7.5G?
Because the DVD has i386 and amd64, the iso is just for i386. PS. I'd normally tell you to send to the list (not me), but as you normally do, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. ;-) So just to reciprocate, I'll give you two messages in return. :-D -- Steve Boddy

How come access is restricted? :( I either get this, or "file not found" errors:
ftp> get SUSE-Linux-9.2-FTP-DVD.iso 200 PORT command successful. 550 SUSE-Linux-9.2-FTP-DVD.iso: File too large.
Thanks - Bruce

The ISO has not been completely transfered to gwdg.de yet would be my guess. I tried a few different sites in the USA till I found one that worked. I have the ISO burned to DVD and will try the install on my laptop some time today. Download with 1.5 DSL took about 10.5 hours. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989 SuSE since 1998 * Only reply to the list please*

The readme file says "(the file's exact size is 3363543040 Bytes!)" so the 3.1GB is the correct length. I am just downloading the is so I can't check, but it might be that this is just the 32-bit version. Brana
Hello all, So, I'm in the unfortunate circumstance that I do not own a DVD burner. How long before 9.2 can be installed directly from the FTP with the help of a boot cd? I've tried several of the mirrors around the Netherlands, but haven't found anything useful yet. Regards, Pieter Hulshoff

You can do that now, use boot.iso in the boot directory -- James Ogley james@usr-local-bin.org GNOME for SuSE: http://usr-local-bin.org/rpms

Try using wget instead. Should work? -- Steve Boddy

Clicking on the link for one of the mirros in konqueror and doing "right click"->"copy to" for the iso image worked for me. Brana
