[opensuse] openSUSE 12.2 HP Pavilion dv7-7107sp
Hi, I've installed openSUSE 12.2 64 bits in the above machine with the following characteristics Processor : Intel Core i7-3610QM Graphics : NVIDIA GT 630M but I can't install the NVIDIA proprietary drives; either from their repositories or compiling them.
From my several experiments, I think that I've to "turn off" the graphics device from the processor.
Did anyone install the drives or can I get some help? Regards Lívio Cipriano -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Some small hints as to *why* you are unable to install which driver version just might help as no-one here can see the workings/messages on your screen....

I have 304.32 installed on two boxes but different cards than yours. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

NVIDIA GT 630m uses Optimus for dynamic switching between the integrated GPU and the NVIDIA GPU, which is poorly supported under Linux at present. See if laptop's BIOS allows you to turn off Optimus and enable either the integrated of the dedicated GPU. If not, then you can try to install bumblebee, but your mileage may vary. Good luck. -- Regarsd, Vadym Krevs -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Make sure you install bumblebee version 3 and not hte 2.4 line. I have it installed and there is opensuse forum entries to install it. Works very well for me. A -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I've start to try with "http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/Bumblebee- Project:/nVidia:/latest/openSUSE_12.2/" and "http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/Bumblebee- Project:/Bumblebee/openSUSE_12.2/" Did you just used the first repository or did you had to work something like this? There are no messages in the screen. The X server starts but the screen remains black or reverts to the console display. In xorg.log the last message is "Number of created screens does not match number of detected devices."
From my several experiments, I think that I've to "turn off" the graphics
device from the processor.
experiments??? = http://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/american- english/experiment_1?q=experiment The maximum extend that I could make the driver work, I had to put in xorg.conf file the PCI channel of the NVIDIA card and the Intel graphic card. I know that with this configuration the driver worked, cause the output of the lsmod command the nvidia driver was used 43 times; but the screen remained black.
Did anyone install the drives or can I get some help?

Well ... I guess this "http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/how-faq- forums/unreviewed-how-faq/469419-opensuse-12-1-optimus-laptop.html" answers most of the questions ...
