Hey Group:
I am building a new machine for a fellow. It will have one 80G EIDE
drive with Winblows and SuSE8.2. Do any of you see issues or know of
problems before I purchase the parts.

Thanks
You should stay clear of the ATI Radeon 9200 series. Still not gotten it to work for me. Dare I say it, maybe a NVidia FX5200 would do the trick. Gone test this this weekend. Hope this helps, Stefan.

Looks good to me, wish I had that! No, seriously: The only trouble I've had with a KT400 chip was where SusE 8.1 refused to enable DMA, even for hard discs. I assume that the kernel didn't have all the stuff for KT400 in. 8.2 Pro works well on that machine though. It is a Gigabyte GA-7VAX board, but it shouldn't behave any different. Hans

My company's systems are similar - each has same MB, AMD XP Barton 2500+, 2x512M (total 1G), ATI 7000. One of the systems runs SLES 8, the other SuSE 8.2, and I have had absolutely no (none, zip, nada) problems. They run Oracle's products with no problem. The only thing I'd suggest - switch to the Barton 2500+ as it should now be around the same price point as the 1800+ and it runs a lot cooler since it has the lower voltage core. No experience with the new ATI cards as the 7000 AGP card did exactly what I needed. /Hans

My hardware is identical to yours except that I have the ATI-powered Radeon 9000 and a bit more memory. 8.2 installed flawlessly except for the fact that I could not get the 52X Creative Labs CDROM to load the software. It hung up exactly in the same place mid-process. A previous Windows 2K installation had no problems. After trying everything I put another (slower) CDROM and the problem went away. Have fun
