A lot of technical questions are asked here. Normally this group should be about the comunity, not so much about solving technical problems. Is there a way to point these questions towards the correct list without the need of answering each and every technical question with: This from http://en.opensuse.org/Communicate#openSUSE_Project_Mailing_Lists # opensuse for general discussion about the openSUSE (development) # project. Human reply ;)
Yes, the traffic is really starting to grow, it would be good to enforce that, IMHO.

Make that semi-human e.g. `:r textfile` ;-) Any other opinions?

How would you 'enforce' it? If I reply to each person personally, others will not see it and will not learn. If I reply to the group, people will get anoyed with me. Also if I am saying this, it does not have that much of an impact, who am I after all? And just kicking people might also be a bit too harsh. houghi -- Nutze die zeit. Something like the following? <snip> Do not take this as a flame. It is intend to get you the best support for now and in the future. openSUSE is the comunity and SUSE is the distribution. This means that the openSUSE mailinglist is about the comunity. The mailinglist for technical help is on suse-linux-e
From http://en.opensuse.org/Communicate#SUSE_Linux_Mailing_Lists : # opensuse for general discussion about the openSUSE (development) project. # For general questions related to released SUSE Linux versions # (eg. 9.3, 10.0) please use suse-linux-e
Please take a look at http://en.opensuse.org/Communicate at to what list is for exactly. Again, this is not a flame. This is intended to bring you to the correct place so you will get better help _and_ to keep this list free from unwanted treads. Thanks and I hope you will soon find a solution. houghi -- Nutze die zeit. Sie ist das Kostbarste was wir haben, denn es ist unwiederbringliche Lebenszeit. From http://en.opensuse.org/Communicate#SUSE_Linux_Mailing_Lists :
I agree with you and Pascal - only I'd remove this part from the link "#SUSE_Linux_Mailing_Lists". No reason to exclude forums, website or IRC. There are other ways of getting technical help than mailinglists - and it seems that some of the people who ask for technical help here have tried the appropriate malinglist first. Conclusion: Point these people away from here - but don't *just* point them to other mailinglists. Martin / cb400f

Perhaps there is a way for a "moderator" to move OT posts to the correct maillist. I've seen this done elsewhere successfully. Dennisk -- Phoenix Linux Users Group "Penguins in the desert"
