Two things:
1) In my answer to you, I tried to convey that these days it is __EASY__ to install the ATI drivers - close to a no-brainer.
My apologies -- I see that I did not succeed.
Yes, you did. I understand. I just wanted to install it using and rpm. Anyway, as I could not make it, I just ran the installer, now everything works OK here, no problem.
According to the instructions from suse site, running the install script with --get-supported option should list all supported distros/versions, incl. SuSE 10.0. Unfortunately, this installer from ati does not list SuSE at all. That's my confusion, as I'd prefer to use this way of installing the driver, with rpm.
2) I went to the ATI site, the 'Downloads and Programs' section, and drilled down using 'Linux' and 'x86_64'. That led me to 'ati-driver-installer-8.22.5-x86_64.run'. Downloaded it. Used 'sh' to run it with '--get-supported' option. It listed ___SIX___ SuSE x86_64 distros/versions that were supported.
Would you be so kind to compare the md5sum of the file downloaded. What I have generates this: $ md5sum ati-driver-installer-8.22.5-x86_64.run a24571ecb45b2a26092ef103d8eecefd ati-driver-installer-8.22.5-x86_64.run And this script _does_ _not_ display SUSE as option when I run it with --get-supported. So, if your checksum is the same (i.e. we have exactly the same file), something on my system makes the script to run incorrectly, as it displays only Debian, Ubuntu and Mandriva.

You wanted an assurance that it would work. To prove a point, I just did it on my SuSE 10.0 64 bit system: <snip>
Thanks for confirming that it works. Now I know that something in the detecting routines of the installer does not work, so I can connect ATI in order to help them to correct this behaviour. Cheers -- -- Svetoslav Milenov (Sunny)
