Dear list, i'd like to add idebus=100 when my computer boots. Where do i have to put this line in order to work? How can i check if it is working and that idebus is not running on 33? Regards, Gert Caers

if you run lilo and you want to pass idebus=100 to lilo then edit /etc/lilo.conf and add append = " idebus=100 " then as root run lilo, before the next boot. Here's part of my lilo.conf for an example - ------------------------Start lilo.conf------------------ boot = /dev/hda change-rules reset read-only menu-scheme = Wg:kw:Wg:Wg lba32 prompt timeout = 80 message = /boot/message image = /boot/bzImage01 label = MyKernel root = /dev/hda2 vga = 791 initrd = /boot/initrd append = " hdd=ide-scsi" image = /boot/vmlinuz label = linuxSuse root = /dev/hda2 vga = 791 initrd = /boot/initrd append = " hdd=ide-scsi" - ------------------------End lilo.conf------------------ - -- Richard Fletcher, Sheffield, UK. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iEYEARECAAYFAj4sZh4ACgkQFv+mlSC+6l5InwCgjv3Y86fBBMH6IN0lGhaTcuTO xIwAnjMgQu6WhaHJfBNPPUc4BRuHCDhu =oaJO -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Are you sure you want to do set idebus=100? Are you overclocking your
pci bus, and have you patched the kernel to allow this?
You are aware that this has nothing to do with ATA-100, right?

My understand you can do max is idebus=66. Base on the PCI bus is 66 MHZ is max now. and you can use ide0=66 for force your ide controller to run ata 66. Then using hdparm to set udma at boot scipt. Cheers. On Mon, 20 Jan 2003, Richard Fletcher wrote:

Are you overclocking your computer? That option has *nothing* to do with the transfer speeds like UDMA133 etc. idebus sets the clock rate of the connection between your IDE controller your chipset. As all other timings are derived from the frequency, things can go seriously wrong if passed wrong values. The frequency of the IDE bus in most cases is the clock rate of your PCI bus which normally 33 MHz. Only in case of either running a system with 66 MHz PCI bus or an overclocked system where bus speeds aren't independent of the processor clock this option needs to be used. In all other cases DON'T FIDDLE WITH IT unless you understand what it's meant for. Philipp -- Philipp Thomas work: pthomas@suse.de Development SuSE Linux AG private: pth@t-link.de
