Saving Mozilla shortcuts, passwords, plugins, etc.
If I save the .mozilla directory in the /homeusers directories in a different location, remove Mozilla (Mozilla site version), install the Suse Mozilla rpm, and copy over the new .mozilla directories in the users directories, will the settings listed above work? Bear in mind the Mozilla sites version installs into /usr/local/mozilla and Suse's installs into /opt/mozilla. I think it should work, but don't want to screw things up (again)! Harry G

Yes, but the best plan would be one you can recover from. I would rename ~/.mozilla to ~/.yourchoice. Then mv ~/.old.mozilla ~/.mozilla, and be sure to do this with mozilla *not* running. If you have problems, you can always reverse this procedure. WORST case:: the directory ~/.mozilla/default/xxyyzzaa.slt is your profile. You could copy everything from ~/.old.mozilla/* into ~/.mozilla and keep the new mozilla directory name ~/.mozilla/default/xxyyzzaa.slt (what ever name your systen assigned, it will be different each time). If this is not clear, ask again and I will explain, perhaps better. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org icq#173753138

As long as the dot directory is in your home directory and the global mozilla directory is in your path then it will pick up the settings. You could install mozilla anywhere on the disk and it should work. :) -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org Tell me what you believe.. I'll tell you what you should see.

AFAIK, either the RPM or the site version only install the program, not the home directory. That would be created when you start mozilla. Just copy the directory for a backup to be sure, leave your old one in place, and you should be fine. If by shortcuts you mean bookmarks, those will stay, as well as passwords, etc. Plugins go with the program, so those will change with the update.

I always changed the default install of the site version to /opt/mozilla, but that is beside the point. It installs all its files under its directory, so uninstall is a snap, just delete the directory. Therefore, I would suggest installing the suse rpm, then copying any plugins from /usr/local/mozilla/plugins to the new /opt/mozilla/plugins directory (except links, relink those), and then the first time you start mozilla do it as root (with sux) to register the plugins, then exit and start as your normal user. You should have everything you wanted above.
