After YOU on a fresh install of 9.1 pro, I now get: mpost:~ # yast2 warning: the ncurses frontend is installed but does not work You need to install yast2-ncurses to use the YaST2 text mode interface mpost:~ # yast2-ncurses was one of the packages that was updated. I removed that package, installed it fresh from CD, no joy. What could have gone wrong and how can I fix it? The qt version won't work either. Interesting. I ran into the same problem with yast albeit from a different route. The solution was to remove all yast components and re-install them from the CD set or the ftp server manually (as yast cannot be accessed). The quicker route may be to re-install. Less work but it depends I guess. Check the logs first however to see if there are any clues at all before doing either. See /var/log/Yast2/....and contents Its a bitch I know...so best of luck. /ch

Thanks Chris, There's absolutely nothing in the logs. Reloading would really be a last resort, as I've got loads of stuff running and it took me all of yesterday to set up. And of course I don't want my client to be down for a day (although reloading might be a bit quicker). I'll rip yast out and install by hand - see what happens. Otherwise I'll have to put in a saturday somewhere... Thanks -- Kind regards Hans du Plooy Newington Consulting Services hansdp at newingtoncs dot co dot za
