Hello List, Here is my Setup: AMD Thunderbird 1.0 Ghz 512 RAM with 1.5 Gig for swap Dual boot with SuSE 9.2 Pro / WinXp SP2 All updates from SuSE were downloaded I found that previous SuSE version were more stable on my system. But now to often for confort I found that SuSE 9.2 Pro Just Hangs and I need to reset(reboot) the system in order to use it again. Now I'm wondering its only me or anybody else are having similar problem with their system. I cauth the system once while its was hanging with 0 free memory for swap...I presume that there may be some memory leak in some application but can't tell which...This happen while running Kde/blackbox/Windowmaker The last HANGS corrupted some files so now my X wont start anymore... Please let me know if eny of you experienced the same problems. Check /var/log/messages for what happens it hangs, and post it here. Try
to rerun sax2, and if needed reinstall the xorg packages.

I seem to recall my SuSE 9.2 hanging like that when I tried Windowmaker. I tend to stick with KDE but I just wanted to explore a bit. Didn't like the other desktops too much so I went back to KDE. Some months ago I wrote to the list but received no reply: I have installed 9.2 four times - from the downloadable DVD and by FTP - with and without updating the X org files with YOU, with and without installing the NVidia driver, with and without the YOU kernel patch, with and without updating KDE to 3.3.2 and each time the system has frozen after about 5 hours. The screen freezes and then goes black. Clicking a mouse button gets an image back on the screen but only for a second or so. No programs can be used. I once gave the system all night to reboot but, in the morning, the rebooted system had frozen. After the first freeze, the others come at short intervals - < 1 hour, whether or not the computer is being used. System: IBM ThinkCentre 8195KMA with P4 3GHz Video card: GForce MX 440SE Has anybody else had this problem? Even if you haven't, all advice and suggestions are welcome. My monitor was correctly detected and configured during installation as IBM L170 TFT with a resolution of 1280x1024 and 16 bit colour. I have re-installed 9.1 but would love to use 9.2 which seemed otherwise bug free and nicer to look at. I saved the following from the system log: DST=210.49.7.153 LEN=48 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=116 ID=52225 DF PROTO=TCP SPT=1084 DPT=1634 WINDOW=8192 RES=0x00 SYN URGP=0 OPT (020405B401010402) Jan 11 16:24:14 c210-49-7-153 syslogd 1.4.1: restart. I didn't realise that there were other log files I should have consulted, sorry. When 9.2 froze, the CPU load was near 100% and all memory had been used. I can't remember how much of the swap file was used. The apps that I keep running as a rule are: Kate Konqueror Kmail Kspread Korganizer Wterm I couldn't identify any other app that was responsible for the freeze. Hope somebody can help, Barbara

It may be of no use at all but have you had this ahppen with any OS? I just wonder if it is perhaps not a 9.2 (or program running on it) problem but a faulty hardware one? Defective memory perhaps. Or maybe thermal creep on the motherboard? Have you tried a Google search using your hardware as the item search. Just in case anybody else has a similar issue. If the problem is the X server and you are using NVIDIA, did you try to set Option "NvAGP" "0" in xorg.conf (section Device)? Francesco Kevanf1 wrote:
