Help!
After installing on a system with a SCSI removable RWMO ( read/write
magneto optical)
cartridge the reboot fails! This same sys worked ok with SuSE 6.3 .
The RWMO cart is /dev/sdb1 ; when SuSE 7.1 reboots is posts these
errors:
fsck.ext2 /dev/sdb1 failed (status 8)! Run it manually
..
..
fsck failed. Please repair manually and reboot. The root
file system is currently mounted read-only. To remount it
read-write do:
bash mount -n -o remount,rw /
The system is in maintenance mode.
I know that to get around this problem I must comment out the
FSTAB entry for /def/sdb1 but I don't know how to edit
from the maintenance mode console. I tried booting the CD1
to try YAST but it wouldn't allow me to change the FSTAB.

Can't you just vi the /etc/fstab using /bin/vi?
If not that, then you'll need to use /bin/ed . Remount root as instructed.
Then
/bin/ed /etc/fstab
and type
1,$p
(there is no prompt at the beginning of the line. Just type it, and hit
enter). Now find the line with sdb1 in it. Count how many lines down it
is. If it's 5, do
5p
(note: there is no prompt with ed).
If you are right, ed will print (p) your line. If you are wrong, try
another number... eg, do
6p
Try numbers until you get the right one. Remember the number (let's say
it's 5). Now do:
5s/^/#/p
You should see a pound sign at the beginning of your line. Now type
w
then
q
(hit enter after each of those letters). Now reboot.
