[SLE] Print from Netscape via a Windows Network?????
Hello, I'm frustrated with the difficulty of printing in Netscape from Linux via a Windows Network. The Windows people are way ahead in this area. I can print to a file and shoot it to the printer, but I find this inconveniant - so I am now working in Windows till I get this resolved. I'm trying to print to our company's printer (HP LaserJet 4+) via Linux. We have a Windows workgroup. We do not have Windows NT. No password is required. We do not authenticate against a Domain Controller. I entered the settings in YAST Samba Network Print Printer Type - ljet4 Server Name - 192.168.0.93 Printer Name - HP My apsfilterrc.ljet4 line now has the following: REMOTE_PRINTER="/usr/bin/samba_print //192.168.0.93/HP -U 192.168.0.93 -N -P" In Netscape I print using lpr -Pljet4 . I chose "ljet4" from the file /var/lib/apsfilter/doc/printer (Is this correct?) /tmp/smb-pring.log shows: mbclient //192.168.0.93/HP -U 192.168.0.93 -N -P Added interface ip=192.168.0.70 bcast=192.168.0.255 nmask=255.255.255.0 session request to 192.168.0.93 failed session request to *SMBSERVER failed I tried gettting rid of the -U in /etc/apsfilterrc.ljet4 : REMOTE_PRINTER="/usr/bin/samba_print //192.168.0.93/HP 192.168.0.93 -N -P" I still get mbclient //192.168.0.93/HP 192.168.0.93 -N -P Added interface ip=192.168.0.70 bcast=192.168.0.255 nmask=255.255.255.0 session request to 192.168.0.93 failed session request to *SMBSERVER failed I typed smbclient -L //lora and saw: Added interface ip=192.168.0.70 bcast=192.168.0.255 nmask=255.255.255.0 Sharename - HP , Type - Printer So I have the server name correct and printer name correct. What gives? Our administrator says that somewhere there should be the command "print". I believe the -P takes care of that. I tried going to the directory /var/spool/lpd should I use one of the names in the list below, which came from this dirctory???
