By the way, my ftp program is telling me that the KDE2 rpms total almost 200 megs? That seems a little large compared to the rpms for other distros. Do you think SuSE just included some extra stuff?
The stuff I download from SourceForge was only 58MB. That 140MB of 'other stuff'!!! I don't know. The rpms from the SourceForge site were specifically for SuSE 7.0. I'm almost tempted to delete KDE2 off my system and install those 200MB from SuSE's site. JLK

Well, I wouldn't be too worried. Even with those messages I am able to operate using KDE2. I wouldn't let my stupidity be a block to your progress.
My biggest problems is that root doesn't appear to be GOD on the system. During kernel boot, as I detailed in a previous post, I get 'Permission denied' messages when the boot process attempts to access the scripts in the /etc/rec.config.d/ directory. The user and group are both root.
Also, every since I installed 7.0 from scratch I get an error in my console log that says that root is a member of too many groups (more than 32) and root is removed from the remaining groups. ???? JLK

Well, you've got me a little worried. I'm downloading the KDE2 rpms now. Hope all goes well with the install.

Thanks! It's confusing because since my blowup this morning I keep getting a msg from KMail (KDE2's) that it can't connect to my ISP, yet I can download, and now it appears upload mail to the list.
All part of my new set of problems. The good news is that I am now using /opt/kde2/bin/kdm if I use the graphical login, but I went back to ascii login till I get these problems worked out. Thanks, Jerry

Since my big mess up I am not sure I am getting out? KMail keeps telling me it can't find my ISP. Would someone email me if this message made it to the list? Thanks, JLK
