[S.u.S.E. Linux] Palm Pilot Users?
Hi, are any Palm Pilot Users on this list? I just got one of these toys, and it works great. However S.u.S.E. lacks of any tools supporting the connectivity between the Pilot and Linux. So I decided to create a WEB page to give my experience how to integrate the Pilot and our Linux to everybody who is willing to read it. If you are interested look at -> <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/~bb/Pilot"><A HREF="http://www.suse.com/~bb/Pilot</A">http://www.suse.com/~bb/Pilot Everything is just in the beginning. i'm still looking for applications who work well togehter with the Pilot. My impression is, that there are a lot of tools but none features the hole thing. Plan syncs fine using PilotManager, but there you only have your datebook, where are notes todo and addresses. Kpilot syncs the address database fine, but the datebook is only implemented very raw using korganizer. Java-Pilot-Desktop seems to be a almost compltete rewrite of the M$ software, but it doesn't sync at all, you need to boot into W95 to do this... Please tell me that I'm wrong, and that there is a application, which handels the whole thing. I'm serious thinking of writing something like this on my own, using pilot-link for the communication and a WEB interface for accessing the data... I think both KDE and Gnome intend to have what you want, but neither does it right now. Federico is working hard on gnomecal and an associated pilot interface. All the other apps are fairly trivial to get working and will follow gnomecal, I'm sure. I would encourage you to *not* start from scratch...either contribute to Kpilot if you lean toward C++ or contribute to the gnome-pilot stuff if you lean toward C. If you don't lean toward any particular language, go with Gnome. ;-) --Donnie -- Donnie Barnes <A HREF="http://www.redhat.com/~djb"><A HREF="http://www.redhat.com/~djb</A">http://www.redhat.com/~djb djb@redhat.com "Bah." I know. I didn't try the GNOME one, but I tried kpilot and it didn't satisfy me.

I lean towards Perl, second choice would be C++.

The application I have in mind would be different to the existing ones, it would have a WEB interface only, so you can use it remote, and I like to have groupware features in it, i.e. have a special categorie which is available to a group of people. But this doesn't belong to this list... Make that three! I use Kpilot _and_ the command-line utilities, Pilot-link, by Kenneth Albanowski (kjahds@kjahds.com). Sometimes I just want to install an app without doing a full 2mb back-up, and the command-line tools are great for this (and more). I made a desktop link in kde that I can drag-and-drop a prc or pdb file onto for an instant install. It's great! Can't do that with the Windows desktop software. The only disapointment for a Linux Piloteer is lack of a good PIM and some PalmPilot apps that require a desktop counterpart (like imiage-viewer or mobile-database) for which there is no Unix port. -Ben -- "You can lead a horse to water...but by the time you got there you would smell like a horse and your butt would hurt." - Dogbert - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

Ah but the RPM from Ryerson works like a charm.
So I decided to create a WEB page to give my experience how to integrate the Pilot and our Linux to everybody who is willing to read it.

I also have one at members.xoom.com/JMarkevich/pilot.html

pilot-xfer is a great tool, sorely lacking in the wingdings version. A million thanks for making a RPM for kpilot! I thought I was going to have to wait for SuSE 6.0!
