[opensuse] Printer toner question
Hi all, I'm thinking about getting a color laser printer. It has 4 toners, ie black, red, yellow, and blue. I've never had a color one before, so my question is do all the toners run low at the same time? They are about 150€ each and if I had to replace them all at once it would hurt. Anyway, I'm looking at a very good deal on a Samsung CLX-6210FX. Does anyone know anything about this printer and Linux? Based on my experience with inkjet colour printers I can see why they should all run out the same time. Also based on that experience I'd go look or alternative suppliers for refills. -- Never look a gift horse in the mouth. Laser toner doesn't dry up, and they're separate cartridges so you should only have to replace them as needed.

According to their website: http://www.samsung.com/au/consumer/print-solutions/print-multifunctions-copiers/colour-multifunction/CLX-6210FX/XSA/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&tab=spec&fullspec=F it is compatible with multiple linux versions. -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I'm using an old OKI 8c color laser at home since two years or so and typically the cartridges must be replaced one by one. OK, about 150€ is a lot of money for one cartridge, but they never run dry :). In my HP, all four can be changed separately. I changed the black one recently. The snag is that the printer estimates the used toner by number of pages, probably without considering printed area and density. I wonder if such a thing could be done and hooked to cups?

No, but google for it. Look in linuxprint.org (from memory), if it is supported. Consider if it is supported by linux natively or needs some driver from the manufacturer (I prefer it doesn't or that the driver is at least open source). - -- Cheers, Carlos E. I have a Xerox 6180 and no they don't all run out at the same time. It all depends on what you print. If a lot of text the black will runn out more often. If you print a lot of pictures the color ones will run out faster. I alway buy the high capacity ones that run about $200 each, but it is still way cheaper then ink in the long run and the quality is much better. -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I have a B/W laser right now that I might have broke. I need to work on it and see if I can get it to work. But even if I do I might get this color printer the price is just too good to pass up. I agree with you, the lasers are cheaper in the long run than ink jets.
