Hi, I have a Microtek SlimScan C3 and SUSE 8.1, I am trying to install it but it is not recognized by YAST. It says there are no scanners detected I try to do it manually and does't work either. This scanner is connected to the parallel port. Does someone knows how to do it? Regards, Jose

You need to load the ppscsi and onscsi modules. The Sane backend to use is Sane-Microtek2. Please refer to the sane-micotek2 manpage. Charles -- "MSDOS didn't get as bad as it is overnight -- it took over ten years of careful development." (By dmeggins@aix1.uottawa.ca)

Well I loaded the ppscsi and onscsi modules, then I run yast and it detected that a scanner was there, I look for my microtek scanner and doesn't appear in the list, although when I looked at the man page for sane-microtek2 my scanner appears in the list of supported scanners. So my question is where is my scanner or how should I load this sane-microtek? Sorry, for the ignorance but I am not an expert I am learning in the process. Jose

No problem, we all have to start somewhere. Hey I am not an expert by any means either. Just uncomment microtek2 in /etc/sane.d/dll.conf and you should be all set. If you want to access the scanner from another machine on the network also then you will need to uncomment net as well as edit /etc/sane.d/saned.conf on the server and /etc/sane.d/net.conf on the client. Hi I just installed SUSE 8.2 in my computer and I am having always when I try to install some program the conflict that the library jre.1.1 and 1.2 and 1.3 are not present in a bunch of programs and I cannot install them. Does someone know how to install that library or where it is? Thanks Jose

You should have java installed in /usr/lib/java, which should go through a series of symbolic links to /usr/lib/BlackdownJava-1.4.1, which contains jre. 8.2 also provides SunJava-1.4.1 in /usr/lib and you can use that instead by changing the symbolic link (see man ln or use konqueror as root) You can install earlier versions of java. The natural place would be /usr/lib or perhaps /usr/local/lib. I think the way to specify a different version (e.g. some applications have managed to be 1.3.1-specific) is to use a command # JRE_HOME=/usr/lib/YourJava/jre YourProgram -- JDL Non enim propter gloriam, diuicias aut honores pugnamus set propter libertatem solummodo quam Nemo bonus nisi simul cum vita amittit.

thanks, I installed the old version from the suse ftp site (8.1) and the conflicts were solved, thank you again. Jose
On the same topic I have SuSE 8.2 Pro and /usr/lib/BlackdownJava2-1.4.1/jre loaded. However, mozilla keeps giving a error. --------------------------------------------------------------------- LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library /usr/lib/BlackdownJava2-1.4.1/jre/plugin/i386/mozilla/javaplugin_oji.so [/usr/lib/BlackdownJava2-1.4.1/jre/plugin/i386/mozilla/javaplugin_oji.so: undefined symbol: _ZN16nsServiceManager23GetGlobalServiceManagerEPP17nsIServiceManager] ====================================================================== Is Mozilla or Blackdown the peoblem? According to mozilla.org Blackdown is the correct version to have.

Donn, Is mozilla.org compiling with gcc 3.2 now? If they are still using gcc 2.95 to compile their mozilla, then quite likely that is your problem as it will be incompatible with the Blackdown Java (compiled with gcc3.2). The Blackdown works great with the SuSE Mozilla 1.4b rpms on my setup.
