Hi Ron, ---- Ron Heron wrote:
what is the output of #smbclient -L hostname -N ?
Well, [-N] is for supressing password prompt for services that does not require a password. And [-L hostname] coincidently translates to same IP if you got the same NetBIOS name as the hostname. You can instead use the [-I IP address] option if "your NetBIOS names don't match your tcp/ip dns host names or if you are trying to reach a host on another network", as stated on _man 1 smbclient_. as of my output it gives: linux:~ # smbclient -L linuxbox -N added interface ip=172.16.236.33 bcast=172.16.236.255 nmask=255.255.255.0 Got a positive name query response from 172.16.236.33 ( 172.16.236.33 ) Anonymous login successful Domain=[INTERNET] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 2.0.7] Sharename Type Comment --------- ---- ------- test Disk For testing only, please on /export/samba/test CD-Rom Disk CD-Rom from Linuxbox SuSE Linux Sambed IPC$ IPC IPC Service (Samba 2.0.7 on (linuxbox/linux)) lp Printer Server Comment --------- ------- LINUXBOX Samba 2.0.7 on (linuxbox/linux) Workgroup Master --------- ------- INTERNET As you can see this is a small test setup, outside of normal production, and on a private IP net (class B, as the old concept said). ---- [Free ADVICE] Do not forget to include To/CC: [SLE] on all your reply's, Ron, there are a lot of people better than me, though.
