I've managed to get samba 2.2.1a working on my 7.2 system.
However.. Although other machines on my network can share the hard drive etc I get access denied when I try and share the printer to the same clients.
I've changed the printer section to.. [printers] path = /tmp print ok = Yes printing = cups
As far as I know from the Admin manual, "printing = cups" is the only entry required. More entries are only needed for broken samba 2.06 and 2.07 versions - also see faq0019 at cups.org (e.g. not in your case)
But I'm still have problems.
I had similar problems, that somehow cured themselves after a system restart. Beware of the order in which the cups and samba daemons are started: In 7.1 samba starts prior to cups, so you may have to stop and start the cups daemon after a reset.
