You either didn't chmod it, "chmod 777 rp7...bin" or you downloaded the wrong version for your CPU.
Well, I did the "chmod 777 rp8...bin" thing. Wow! Thanks for the hint on sux - I never realised this version of su existed. Now I don't have to log in as root to run GUI apps. You really do learn something new every day! You could also put this at the end of your .xinitrc xhost +localhost

Well, by doing "sux -" and logging in as root, and then doing an install of rp8...bin, now it's working as a plugin to Netscape, great! Thanks guys for all the good tips. But, if I open a terminal window, as user or root, and type "realplay", press enter, then I get this: see attached png file. But, after 60 seconds in that condition it recovers itself and I get the opening sounds, and then its OK. Weird, any ideas about this? Thanks for all the help! jvb
Hi Jerry, It is not fair to the users of this list to send them a 400kbyte message. Also, while you send it only once to the mail server, it has to be sent individually to each user after that, so you can calculate the bandwidth it takes. Please, think about these aspects next time ! Andrei On Sat, Apr 07, 2001 at 05:57:57PM -0700, Jerry Van Brimmer wrote:

Actually, you are not installing. You don't 'run' an rpm file, you use rpm or an rpm tool. I open a term and enter 'sux -' , the the root password when asked. Then, from the terminal as root I issue the command 'kpackage'. When it comes up I unload the old realplayer and then use the 'file'menu option to open the new one. Then I click on the 'install button' . jlk
