Safe to update to KDE 3.02?
After reading a lot of the recent posts concerning problems with updating to KDE 3.02, I had held off. In fact, IIRC someone mentioned that the rpms had been removed from the SuSE server. Last night I noticed they were back and was wondering if perhaps some of the problems had been addressed. Can anyone offer some enlightenment? Except for a missing config file in /etc/ppp/peers for kppp, I have updated 2 8.0 boxes without a problem. -- Joe & Sesil Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: http://www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris Registered Linux user 231871 God said, I AM that I AM. I'm one of the people with missing handbooks because of updating to 3.0.2. Assuming that problem has been fixed, does anyone know what the best way is to revert back to 3.0.1 or 3.0.0 in order to do a new update, since now when I start an online update the KDE patches aren't there in the list, since it thinks I don't need them. Alternately, is there any plan to offer a special patch for us eager beavers who pounced on the update too soon? -- Bryce Hardy (Santa Rosa, CA) brycehdy@sonic.net

This is a problem I have run into. Lost kppp. Modem immediately drops out upon connect. It then exits with an Error 2 which pertains to options. Debug gives me the following: "Can't open options file /etc/ppp/peers/kppp. There is no directory called kppp. Joe???? Can you help me here? Or anybody else that has had this problem and solved it? There are a few other things also. eg: when a window is minimized it doesn't show in the task bar to reactivate it. Some sections of the Control Center are freezing and can't be changed. Oh well....More updates coming soon I hope. Bob S.

Create a file named kppp in the directory /etc/ppp/peers, with the contents: plugin passwordfd.so That will allow it to authenticate and connect again. Thanks so much Joe. Now it works fine. I tore my hair out for 3 days trying to solve this before I asked the list. Just happened to notice your off-hand remark and replied. Again, thanks so much. See the posting to "All the Guru's" Bob S.
