Hi all... I just got a copy of 8.1 pro (7 disks) from a buddy today. He wrapped the newly burned diskettes in old paper to mail to me. I don't know how but on disk #7 part of the printing on the paper transfered to the disk. I tried to read this disk on two different machines. Both will not read it. Does anyone have an idea about how to clean this stuff off the disk? I can feel the ink ( or whatever it is). My wife suggested I use her window cleaner, what do you all think? Thanks! Sorry for the crappy waste paper from office:-) it's all the company can afford *haha* The CDs were in jewel box, this would have made a semi-fat parcel out of the letter ... And others have been asking me to keep leftover jewel boxes ...

It's HP LaserJet crap! Well, CDs are made from polycarbonate; this can withstand chemicals pretty well. Not like polystyrene which eagerly solves up in nearly any solvent. So the window cleaner (which normally is based on alcohol) should be fine ... If not, you'll get a new CD #7 ... promised:-))
Thanks!

As a SuSE employee I have to recommend boiling the disks in water and then drying them in the microwave. Even better, autoclave them if you have access to one. -- -ckm

And to make sure your installation runs as smoothly as possible, be sure to defragment your disk. Here's an instruction page to show you how http://www.datadocktorn.nu/us_frag1.php //Anders
